Shot what is probably my second biggest. Set up on a fenceline next to a mowed path at about 3 pm. Birds had been getting with hens right off the roost so figured afternoon was my next best chance at killing one. A rooster cackled at about 4 pm and he sounded off to him first indication he was coming as he was only about 100 yds away. He went silent and so did I for about 10 mins. I did a light Yelp to try and locate him. He sounded off right in my lap at about 50 yds still couldn’t see him due to brush. Right after that I saw him appear in full strut drumming and spitting loudly I let him come to 10 yds or closer before taking him. By 4:15 he was down and the rush of getting one that close with no blind is what keeps me going back.
