The 2024 crop of RC Big Rock Switchgrass has been harvested and is being cleaned and will ship months end.

Just wanted to make IW community aware I am running a promotion on pre orders. Free Richardson 112 custom hat with 50 lb bag purchase. (really nice cap) on top of the best pricing you will find.

Cool. How many acres of RC Big Rock get harvested? I'll order a 5 lb bag to sprinkle here and there. Put 10 lb down this year and it did pretty well, probably mostly 5' tall.

It was enough last year to plant about 4,000 acres. I'm not sure on acres of seed switchgrass.

What would you charge for killing and drilling 5 acres? When is the best timing for that and do you still put down the pre emergent?

send me details. Location, existing conditions, etc.

As far as generic stuff, timing depends on what all prep needs to be done. Spring planting- pre good idea generally although I'm seeing great stands spraying duracor post. summer plantings, pre not needed from what I've been seeing. Duracor post, again.

I don’t own a drill or have any herbicides on hand for switch. If I buy RC Big Rock, what is the best scenario for getting some up next year & what if any prep should I be doing now for next year? If this is already covered in the switchgrass thread I can look over there. I do have round up, a rototiller and a good broadcast spreader.

Yes covered extensively in the Dbltree thread, but can help here too.

For conventional planting (no drill):

I would have it mowed this year snd depending where you're at geographically, spray it if you have a warm day left in season spray it. Wait for any green up in spring and spray or respray. Add pre herbicide if you can get them (simazine or atrazine) Till lightly, seed, double cultipack or lawn roller. Post herbicides are widely available depending on what weed and foxtail pressure looks like.
