.40 cal bullets

Is it legal in iowa to shoot .40 cal bullets out of a .45 cal muzzleloader with a sabot? In rules says .44 cal min ? Is that for the firearm or the projectile??

.44 for the firearm. Projectile can be smaller. That is not the rule for some neighboring states but it is for Iowa.
