A little Coyote calling

Broadhead

A buddy and I entered a coyote calling contest this past weekend in Kansas and had a decent weekend. Called in and killed 6 dogs, should have had 7 but I missed the easiest shot of the day:mad:. This was good enough for 2nd place in our class tho. Total coyotes called in and shot was close to 500 by all participants, not bad for a windy weekend!

How does this work? Would love to know more, just seems like A TON of coyotes for a weekend. Is it county wide or something?

Great job!! I hate them fawn killers so much, its not even funny.

Can you use Electronic calls on this hunt? 2 days? Do they find land for you to hunt or is that up to you?

Holy crap that's a lot of dogs! How big of an area did that competition comprise? We need something like that around here!

Its a competition in Kansas. You have to have your own land to hunt, and the dogs can only be called in with either mouth or electronic calls. You are able to hunt all day Saturday and have to check back in by 3 pm on Sunday (night hunting is not allowed). There are alot of rules to eliminate cheating so it is a pretty good contest. There were about 130 teams of 2 that competed this year.

The nights out there will be quite for a couple of nights. Any bald ones?
There were quite a few bald ones (I'd say 30%). Only 1 of the 6 we shot was mangy. In years past the Kansas DOW also drew blood on each dog to track the spread of disease but did not do that this year.

I was thinking the same thing. Seems like something a lot of people would get behind here in iowa. Nice haul.. shoot them all.

I tell you what I hunted Kansas once quite a few years ago and when shining it was absolutely insane how many coyotes there were. I would say the population in kansas compared to iowa is a good ten times higher. you rarely ever see a coyote shining in Iowa. It was nuts!!

This needs to happen in Iowa. I don't know the first thing about calling coyotes but I know where there are a bunch and the land owners would definitely appreciate killing these damn dogs.

Wondering what you used for a call? I bought a Foxpro Firestorm but haven't had a lot of opportunity to try it out.
