My brother is getting divorced. Her latest demand is that all of his hunting gear, guns, bow, deer head, all of it get appraised. It is becoming quite clear she really doesn't want the kids unless they come with $$$ and now she is looking for other places to get him. The kicker is most of the hunting equipment is mine, he hasn't had any money for years. The bow is mine and he uses it. Only gun that is his is an old Mossberg 12g that doesn't always work. The deer is a 13 point P&Y non-typ in the high 150's so nothing special to a collector but great sentimental value to him. He says he'll break the horns off before she gets the deer.
My suggestion is with the exception of the deer, give her the gun and even the bow, minus the accessories, before any cash. It is an old Mathews Q2 and I'll upgrade for him before he has to pay her. Is the deer truly worth $$$? Sad situation.
Thanks for any advice. Good news is she can't take away memories, and the kids LOVE to go hunt with us.
