So before work today I took a little drive around a few spots I normally see deer. Just about ready to head back to town when I come over a hill and look out on a plowed corn field and spotted him all alone near a fence line. I wathced him start coming towards a tar road but then headed back towards the fence line he came from. I'm thinking he wasn't pressured to much during our slug season due to the lack of cover in this section and nobody hunting it. My question is the wind was from the south today and looks like tomorrow too, I have a perfect drainage ditch to walk along in the morning to sneak to a thin patch of brush about 75-85 yards away from where I first seen him today and I'll be downwind. My question is what would you due? I'm thinking maybe a decoy but then again just thinking about getting there and waiting. Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

Keep in mind that it's possible he was just out cruising for doe's. Trying to pattern anything this time of year could be just a waste of time. If it were me I'd focus more on the adjacent bedding areas and set up in a spot that gets the most traffic, as opposed to a single spot where you saw a lone buck the day before. Regardless, the drainage ditch sounds like a great way to access the area, and anytime you can get in and out without being seen or heard will definitely increase your odds. Good luck!

I'd sneek in and wait.If it looks like he's not show or not be close enough for a shot, try to rattle him in. JMO
I'm thinking if I see him there again tonight it is on for the morning. I've been looking at the adjacent fields and area by driving today and also by topo maps and there is just no good cover for a mile or so. I know they travel quite aways when looking for does but I think he might be making this a new home. The fence line is about 15 feet wide with taller grass so he might be bedding there too.

I agree you never know where he might be now. However after checking my cameras this past sunday I had the same stud 10pt come by during daylight 4times over 3 days. morning, afternoon, the next afternoon, and the following morning. Of course I had opted to hunt another "prime" location all weekend
