Last month I got this guy on my trail camera. This morning while walking in to change film on it he walked within about 35-40 yards of me. The amount of horn he added in a month astonished me. This guy is a true monster for my area. I truely believe he will go around 170 or more when he is done growing. He is easily the biggest buck that I have ever seen.
Now for my question. I am new to this trail cam thing and am as addicted to it as I am to bow hunting. Now that I have him on film and a visual sighting, when do all of you pull your cameras out of an area that you have spotted a large buck in? He did spot me and just kinda bounded off after about a 7 minute stare down at 35 yards. I already have a stand in the spot where the camera is. It is in a classic funnel area on the outside corner of a corn field. Nebraskas bow season starts on September 15th about 45 days from now. I probably wont get to hunt it much early but I do check my film every 5-7 days. I would love to get a picture of him in hard horn but I'd love to get a crack at him with my bow even more. I could move my camera off of this area about 300 yards into a more open area but might not get as many pictures. What should I do? Move it soon? Wait a month or how ever long and then move it? Move it to a all new area and leave this area alone? Move it to a new spot on this farm?? I am leaving for a week in the Black Hills in the morning, I will be anxiously waiting to see some of your thoughts. Thanks!!!!

Me, I'd yank the camera and glass him from a distance if possible. If you really want a crack at him, the less you disturb the area the better. Especially if he's already been alerted to your presence.

Pull the camera and dont go back until you hunt it. You know the deer is there and you already know where you want to hunt, why risk it.

Pull the camera, once I get a deer on mine in an area I will be hunting that I know is a shooter I yank it, put it in a new spot and see what else is on the farm.

Put the camera in a feeding area and away from your hunting area if possible. The less he is disturbed, the better off you are. I "condition" the deer I photograph by letting them get hit with the flash regularly if possible....they have gotten used to it on one of the farms I hut and based on watching from a distance, I have yet to see a deer bolt away from it. Will I knowingly intrude a killer area with it after I know what deer is there....nope

Thanks guys. Just got back from the Black Hills and finally got things all put away. The camera will be pulled out this week first chance I get. I am going to move it off of this spot for a couple of weeks about 300 yards away in an open spot. By then, another spot I hunt the farmer is going to move the cows out of the pasture and I will put it in there. By the way I will be posting a picture of this buck I just got with a month of growth on him. However that will be in the PMA section. Gotta join to see it along with some other outstanding bucks being spotted by other members. Thanks!!
