Ambush Saddle?

I bought a copy of "Precision Bowhunting" by John and Chris Eberhart based on Kat's recommendation. The authors seem to like the Ambush Saddle. They were actively involved in it's design and testing and sell it at their website Saddle

I'm thinking they might be slightly biased

and I am looking for other opinions. I was surprised at the price, but maybe price reflects quality. When you are 30 feet up, you might not want to trust your life to a $20 modified piece of hammock webbing. Anybody use one of these?
 
I would try one but wouldn't spend that kind of money until I was comletely sold. 4lbs sounds a bit better than the twenty three I usually carry. My thoughts go to all the other stuff I drag up the tree with me. Just swing aroung this way and slam into all of that stuff while trying to get that shot of a life time. I think it would be fun to play around with one, but I have always liked hanging around.
 
I've been looking at these, too. I've got Hunting Pressured Whitetails by John and Chris Eberhart and there is a chapter in about them in this book also. Sounds like they use them alot.
As ironwood said, pretty spendy item. My question is how do you climb the tree with one if you can't screw in steps?

I would just use my climbing sticks from my Lone Wolf. Hoping to buy another section or two anyways.

I just visited Tree-suit. Very similar product and it is getting closer to being affordable. Are there any other manufacturers of like products?
 
I was wondering about these too, would be fun to play around with first to decide if it was worth the money. I love my lone wolf, but it plus four climbing sticks can really kick my a$$ on a long hike with some of these steep hills out here. It would be nice to have an alternative sometimes.

My main concern with the ambush saddle/treesuit would be the comfort of your feet from not having a solid platform under them for hours at a time, especially when standing.
 
Kat, I had a treesuit for awhile. Neat product - I just wasn't in the mood for that type of stand. As far as something to stand on, I bought 3 strap-on tree steps, took 2 of them apart, then added those steps to the strap of the third one. That enabled me to step all around an 8-12" diameter tree. Worked pretty well.

I'm a new member here and really like this site. I hunted out of the Tree Suit the last 2 Seasons and took 3 whitetails out of it. I really liked the concept and style but found that the seat part of the Tree suit became very uncomfortable after long sits.I also felt that the nylon webbing and straps were very noisey while initially setting up for a morning hunt.
This Spring, I purchased the tree saddle from the local Cabela's.As most of you said, it is very pricy, but I've talked to a few who have one, and they say the price is worth the comfort, so i'm going to give it a try.
As far as John & Chris Eberhart, they do like to hunt very high up.As for me, I am fine with my 3 piece climbing sticks.
 
I know a guy just across the river here from me that bought one. Worst $200 he ever spent is what he said. I personally don't know, I never used one before. Might be tuff for me at 6'6" 330lbs..
