American Hazelnut Trees for Deer

Team Haastyle

Host of Haastyle Hunting
This coming year I plan on planting American Hazelnut trees for use around two of my one acre food plots. I was just curious as to what is the best distance to plant them apart and how long should I fence them in for protection from the deer?

Deer readily browse them on my farm. Some that are not fenced, that were planted 5 years ago, are almost 3 feet tall now. :D

Here is a mature hazelnut bush to give you some estimation on how far to plant them apart. I think no more than 4 feet apart if you was wanting some type of screen.

Here is the type of screening cover you can get with hazelnuts...this is another patch growing wild along the fenceline.

Let em' grow,
I am getting both seedlings and trees that are 3-4 feet already. Should I protect the seedlings at least?
