Our only hope, peacefully, is to get the electoral college to stop the winner take all format. Example: California goes 55-45 or close to it almost every election, yet all 55 electoral votes go to the democrat (winner take all), so almost half the state goes unrepresented. Fixing this one issue would at least give us a chance, as of now we don't have one
That's a state issue, Maine & Nebraska already have the ability to split their electoral votes based on the results of each congressional district & the overall statewide vote. Obama actually pulled 1 electoral vote from the district that contains Omaha in 2008 & split Nebraska's electoral college vote for the 1st time ever. There are a couple people that have done some analysis on what a nationwide election would probably look like if all states adopted the same or similar laws & they appear to generally favor Republican candidates.
