Ammunition Plant

I Heard that Liv4Rut hunts there and might have some info you can send a PM. I'm in the Army and someone told me you had to be Military to hunt there.

I found the Websites for the plant. When they return my e-mail or phone call I'll post the information for all since no one seems to want to share info. CW2 Myers

it's hard to get a badge to hunt there. they only issue a limited number and someone has to drop out to allow new people in. you can call the security people to find out when you need to apply.

john boy - i don't think it's that people don't want to share info it's that 99.9% of the people here don't hunt the plant and have no idea on what you need to do to get on there.

Thanks J B if you have the phone number to security you could send me a PM.

Muddy your probably right this is a tough egg to crack. I figured with the wealth of knowledge on this site someone would know. I've been trying since 2nd Shotgun season. Thanks again

i may be wrong but i think that if you're not stationed there you will have to go through the same application process as a civilian. also, i'm also not sure but in order to hunt there you may need a "hunting buddy", sort of a partner type of deal. i'm going to apply there , if you want to put each others names down let me know.

I hunt the army ammunition plant in middletown. it doesnt matter who you are, anyone can hunt there, if you are in the army and a regular joe isnt you have the same chance of getting in. i got in there four years ago, and it used to be a drawing out of everyone that applied, however when 9/11 happened they shut down the plant for a year and nobody could hunt, and the last two years they havent had a drawing due to iraq and terrorism threats. They have just let the people in there before 9/11 , and havent let anyone in since. i dont know if they will have a drawing or not but we should know by late spring after turkey season. They also have a rule where if you shoot two does in there the season before, for that season you automatically get in for the next year, so as it goes anyone who got their two does or is smart enough to get there two does, they will be in again next year. good thing i got my six does for all three seasons!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. Some posts allow military only and some allow both, Camp Dodge doesn't allow civilians so thats why I'm checking. Do to the highened security we can't always get on here.

you have to fill out an app. its open for anyone to apply. its not easy ,even though you might get drawn. you might have your tree stand in a certain area and show up to hunt to find that area is closed for the day, that would make a guy mad.....and that does happen.

on what qdmer said, its true for gun hunting during mon-thurs half of the plant is shutdown concentrating all the guys into a few limited areas, it makes it alot tougher during the week. bow season all the zones are always open however. if you hunt a weekend, you can guarantee you will run into people hunting close to you or walking through the woods on you. right now in there they have 125 bowhunters, 200 shotgunners, 50 early muzzleloaders and 50 late muzzleloaders, and i dont know how many youth hunters. this year they really hurt the population, i hunted extremely hard during late season in all the hotspots, and didnt see much at all compared to last year, my buck sightings decreased by 75 percent. it was kind of depresssing but maybe they will change some things and hope that next year is still good. they also limit you to two tree stands, and you have to have a cell phone, wear orange to and from your tree, and they give a full vehicle and equipment search every morning and night while entering and leaving. just some more info for you. i know in the last two years there hasnt been a drawing so goodluck in finding info

Thanks for all the help. I talked to the IAAP representative today. They will know in the spring if it's going to be a drawing or not. My understanding is, if they draw, they have 7 different categories they use to classify hunters.

John boy, they did away with the 7 different categories when i got in, but maybe they will bring it back i dont know for sure. anyways goodluck and if you get in, pm me or post or something and we will get together
