Leaves looked like the tree is a white variety. Huge acorns! Ideas on what kind?

Bingo!! BURR ^^^^
Only other option would be a burr x ____ hybrid or a non native variety. But…. BURR :)

After posting the pic, I thought I remembered that the University of Iowa has a landscaping webpage. Looking at it this morning, you guys nailed it. It is a Burr Oak on the Pentacrest. I have an English Oak started out at the farm from the English Oaks just west of the main library.

Burr cap wraps clear around. See some white burr oak crosses. Burr has a tap root like a carrot fire resistant bark.
