Any fall luck yet?

Threebeards
Just wondered if anyone's scored yet? Haven't even had a chance to get out yet but that will change this weekend. Plan to go for birds just off the roost in the morning and then take up the recurve in the stand in the afternoon and try to score a nice fat doe. On a scouting/hunting trip by my buddy last weekend, it looked like they were hitting an oak-covered hillside for acorns so hopefully they haven't cleaned them all up yet. How's the acorn crop look where you hunt? Seems thinner than usual most places I've been.

I think everybody's up in a tree stand right about now

Having said that, I do plan to buy a turkey tag here after I wrap a tag around some horns

i've been out once or twice specifically for tukeys. no luck yet, the closest thing i've had is a turkey vulture. hopefully deadeye can post a picture of that dude when he gets some time. the acorns look really good in the areas i'm hunting this year, seems to be every 4-5 years they're good. lookin' to have a productive first half of november during my vacation. fist full of deer tags and a turkey tag, YEAH!

Ive had long beards at 20 yards the past three times ive been out...but everytime i try to draw on one the i always catch one of the keen ol' birds eyes!...

Sounds like you need a Double Bull blind my friend! And while yer out buying yourself one, wanna pick me one up too?

I'm heading out Friday after work to central Nebraska for my annual fall turkey hunting trip. Should have the better part of two sections all to myself. Looking forward to a little R&R in the great outdoorss. Then it's only two more weeks until the deer opener!!!

Good job Buck Hunter, I drew back on a big gobbler last weekend for the first time ever. The outcome wasn't good though. I guessed him at 30 yards and he was only 22 yds. From a treestand they look alot furter than they are I guess. The old log he was standing on stopped my 100 grain Thunderhead pretty well! I was able to unscrew my arrow, but it too was ruined. It didn't take him long to get out of town after that! Hope I get another chance this fall, sure gets your blood pumping!

gotta tell this one on a buddy last weekend we were duck hunting on some public ground we put out 5 decoys and was setting on a overgrown bank with his black lab waiting for ducks to fly in and all of a sudden this tom comes flying right at us across the lake gets out about 10 yrds and turns to the right slightly at first we thought he was going to land in the decoys so my partner pulls up and dumps him like a duck he falls in the water and the lab goes after him gets him to shore but can't get him out so he turns around and pulls it backwards until it is at our feet!! my partner look at me and says "did that just happen??" all & all it was really pretty cool

Got my first turkey ever yesterday after about 3 years of trying. Just a jake but I'm happy to have finally gotten one. After struggling to even get one before, this year it seemed kind of easy!!

Last Saturday I was in my DB blind and two big toms came out of the timber about 3 feet from my blind. They were so close I almost did not see them until it was too late. But I grabbed my bow and drew back. By now the first tom was 5 feet in front on the blind walking so I put the pin right on the top of his wing and let er fly. The arrow hit just where I aimed and off he went. And boy did he. He ran with that arrow sticking out of him but it di not go thru him. The arrow was only in him about 2 or 3 inches. I could not understand that. I shoot a Matthews MQ1 so I know it has knock down power. I got out of my blind and looked for about 15 min. no luck. I got back into the blind because I only had about an hour left of daylight, I still have a buck tag. The next morning I got out of the treestand a little early so I could look again for the Tom. Another 15 min. of looking and I found him under a brush pile. The arrow had hit the wing bone just at the joint and broke the bone and barely got to his lung. He was 29lbs 11 3/4" beard and 1 1/4, 1 1/8 sprus. Very nice Tom.

Nice job! At only 5 feet, that had to hurt! I'm surprised it didn't penetrate further but apparently still did it's job. Good work in finding him, too!

QDMer,

Congrat's on the bird and the persistent recovery job! Well done.

Which broadhead were you using? I've had a lot of variation in penetration depending upon the head when shooting turkey.

I was using Muzzy's and it really bent one blade but I hit him right where I should'nt have....in the joint.

I had the same experience this spring with a bird in Nebraska. That is an area you definately want to avoid. I wasn't as fortunate. We looked for five hours and never found the bird. I was close to throwing the bow and myself in the river.
