man, this guys is an a-hole. i'm sure by morning, there should be some quote that can be added, but basically he said, if you study hard, you can go far, but if you aren't smart, you could end up in iraq. in essence, calling our troops stupid. there was a democratic candidate that was to speak with kerry in iowa on thursday, he wisely canceled that. also, kerry refuses to appolgize for his comments

I do not disagree that John Kerry is less then impressive but yet I am somewhat dismayed with this whole situation. The way I understood the statement it seemed to me that it was clearly intended to be a shot towards old "W" himself. Which quite frankly shouldn't come as a suprise to any of us who watch both parties act like little girls in a school yard. I myself a Republican am not real impressed with Mr. Bush and feel the fact that we as a party would take this statement and twist it around as some sort of attack on our soldiers image as a disgrace. It just kind of shows how desperate the republican party is getting and how it must apparently be necessary to stoop to a new level of political finger pointing to polish a parties tarnished image. Let's get real as much as I hate John Kerry when it comes to military experience George W. needs to remember the difference between flying in the air national guard in Texas and almost getting your @$$ shot of in Vietnam. None the less it is a shame that any of these politicians act the way they do. There is no longer moral integrity in our goverment. Unfortunately it is no wonder other countries look at America and wonder what the hell we are thinking sometimes. Sorry for the rant but it should be no wonder such a statement will get overblown with less in a week until elections. Trust me all these hot topics will cool off as fast as the gas prices will probably rise on the week after the elections. My suggestion.....in the time it takes to sit down and read this website a person could have voted and made a difference. Those who complain yet take no responsibility for our goverment should not be heard.

No doubt Kerry is just another version of Bush, an out of touch wealthy idiot. Kerry does not represent the core Democratic Party as he appeals to his Massachusets liberal constituency. Although we differ in political philosophies, I agree with Idehunter, this thing is twisted and is an attempt to take the heat off of the inappropriate contact coverup within the Republican Party. Let us not forget, Kerry served his country with honor, Bush was AWOL for most of his cush National Guard duty.

i actually do believe that kerry meant that retarded comment as a jab at bush. but the fact remains, is that he said what he said. i find it hard to believe that he (or whoever writes the crap in his speeches for him) could not see that was in EXTREMELY poor taste, and wouldn't be seen as a slap in the face of soldiers.

i'm not some diehard replublican, i think bush is in over his head. i also think that the democratic party has to have someone better in it to have run in '04 than kerry.

i also believe that i came closer to getting my ass shot off in vietman, than kerry did. at that time, i was still just a bit of man seed, and a future dream of my dad's. but i don't see any real soldiers running around with a big camera crew, posing for pictures. kerry's whole "stint" (or stunt) in vietnam was little more than a poto op, for a future in politics....which, after this, hopefully is over. i would love to spit in his face.

props to the democratic candidate who was to have some fundraiser with kerry this week. after these comments, he cancelled his appearance.

The damage has been done, no matter how he meant it. He can never take that back and every person in uniform will remember that every time they see that jacka** on TV from now on. To each and every person that is wearing a uniform that heard that comment, Thank You.

Well put T-Roy...

Well here is a view from a Soldier who has served 14 years. When I herd his statement on Monday I nearly craped my pants. I could not believe the idiot had the nerve to say what he said. I'm sorry but the way he said it, there was no way to think he was talking about Bush. He realized he F'ed up and started back pedeling the very next day. Then He has the balls to call out the republicans for making a big deal out of it. What, the Democrats would have let that slide if a republican said it? It's dirty politics point blank. I'll also say that most Military members will back republicans because they are more military friendly than Democrats. Sure lets pull out of Iraq so that the nearly 3000 killed will be for nothing, great idea. I've lost several good frinds in the last three years and I'm telling you the worst thing we can do is pull out and let the [censored] heads over there think they have accomplished something by making us run. We are safer fighting them there than we are fighting them here. Ok I'm off my soap box. And yes I've served two tours In Iraq and Will be headed back for a third, next year.

I couldn't agree more and I am glad you said this because you can speak from first hand experience. I get so sick and tired of the Democrats. They want to make those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for this country seem in vein just for their own political gain. They say Bush doesn't have a plan. However, not one democrat has offered a better plan. The democrats want to cut and run which I agree is the worst thing we can do. I agree we need to take the fight to them. Thank you for your service and keep up the great work. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all those who serve in our military.

What is wrong with the National Guard?

I would have to say that living in Iowa and being in the National Guard is the best job that I have ever had and oh yeah we are the highest state in the country with being deployed over seas. Funny thing is that we have no active duty basis in Iowa, all national guard.
Oh yeah and in the national guard it is not always cush, we go to the same basis and usually work along side the active duty boys. Sorry your comment got to me as being a member of the National Guard.

I am by no means defending Bush. I voted for him and obviously made a wrong choice but I thought it was a better choice then Kerry and I have to live with my choice.

Should Kerry of said what he said, Absolutely not and everyone heard it the way the news broadcasted it.

He took the NO BALLS approach to apologizing today also and decided to make a written statement over email. What the HELL is that all about. This piss's me off more then him saying what he said.

How long before we hear him say this...

I was for the uneducated troops in Iraq, but now I am against them.

SSgt Conner,
I agree man, I was AD Air Force for 5 years and am now in the Air National Guard. It's the best part time job there is hands down and it's by far not a "cush" position. Are you in the Des Moines unit? I'm thinking of making a transfer there in the next year - MN deer hunting is not doing it for me.

Oh - did anyone see the banner the troops in Iraq made for Kerry? That was awesome - Kerry is such an idiot.
