Are these guys nocturnal??

I have had some buck pictures of 3.5 year and older deer, and they are usually out moving between 11 and 3 consistently. Does anyone else have this when they get deer pictures? And has anyone had any success taking a deer like this?

This may not hold true for many of the successful deer hunters on this site, but .....

All four of the largest and most mature bucks I have taken with a bow were all harvested on the first time I had seen the deer, and all during the rut.

This is my first year to use a trail camera and I am obviously a rookie as I have no pics of mature bucks.

I would think it would not be that uncommon to not see some of these mature deer during daylight hours until they have their mind heavily on breeding does.

Keep after them and good luck this year

As much as 90% of a mature bucks life is spent nocturnal. As per the previous post the few times during a matures bucks life that they will break this pattern is when their looking for love. I have shot two older bucks having never seen them before also.

Just my opinion but I think a lot of these bucks move about during the middle of the day alot and at the fringes of daylight. The rut does bring the big boys out in an all day fashion but in the pre and post rut periods, I have seen mature bucks countless times out and about near high noon. I think if you find a big bucks core area and sit on stand from mid morning (8:30-9:00am) until dusk, you have a much better shot at killing him rather than slipping in at noon or later when he may be up moving drinking and browsing. I have several stands set up for only this type of hunting.

Even guy's like the DRURYs see this happen not sure what DVD it is one of this years but they have one seen where
they talk about this same topic.
They have 20 something mature bucks photos not one during daylight hours.
That how the biggest of the big get that way. Until at least the pre-rut these monster are almost unkillable.
Now for sure some make a mistake before and after but 90+ % are taken during pre, rut, post. because they just move more during day light hours during these times. They have to do what comes natrual and during that time of year its seeking out some good sex.oppss can I say that here ?
