I found what appears to be a tool of some sort this weekend while turkey hunting in Kansas. I have a couple of pics in my gallery I was wondering what the heck it is. Its my first find of the artifact sort, only found it because it was big enough to trip me up. If anyone could post the pics that would be great. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks James

Bannerstones don't always have holes drilled through them. I took a look at a few of my books and there is a really good illustration of a birdstone preform in here that has a close resemblence to what you've found. Do you have any more pics from different angles?

You're right, they dont always have holes drilled through them, only about 95% of them do. The archaeologist ive talked to "assume" the ones that didnt get the holes drilled in them werent finished. Ol' Chief Hawkalot was sittin on a hillside, bannerstone in hand, and a dirty ol cowboy flung a bullet into his dome. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Its really pretty big, probably weighs ten pounds, the groove fits perfect in your right hand feels almost like a hand held hoe or something. Its made of a slate or sandstone material. I will try to get more pics in the morning to give you and Idea of the size.

Did you find it in an aera known to have artifacts? Seems pretty big for abannerstone or pendent, May be some thing none native american.
