I was working today when I got a call from a buddy. He tolds me there was a big buck on some ground I hunt. I drove out to check it out. He wasn't kidding so I called my boss and asked for the afternoon off.
It took me 2 hours to get within fifty yards. It was a tough stalk because they were laying on top of hill out in the middle of a corn field. With the crunchy stalks and not much wind I could barely move and had to stand up the whole time. I wore my brown carharts for camo and it seemed to work pretty good. The buck never knew I was there but the doe knew something was up. When he stood up it would have been a perfect broadside shot. I wish I practiced more long shots. I couldn't bring myself to shoot and chance having a bad shot. I have a stand in a piece of wooded ground that they wandered into. They never acted to spooked I know where I'll be in the morning.

When I got close enough that I could count points my heart really started pounding.I would guess him to be around a 150 inch 10 point with a some kickers. Which is big for up here.

You guys that stalk muley's must have a blast. I have to try that some year.

Nice to have some excitement its been a slow season for me.

Sounds like a good afternoon.
Hopefully you loose an arrow in the morning.

In oct. I stalked a buck that I thought was between 125 and 140. I stalked for an hour and got with in 30 brushy yards. The buck I wanted turned out to be about 100inches and I could have shot him but passed, then a spike realized that clump had moved, then the staring game was on. Im sure most of 5min with out either of us moving. He started feeding and I back out got almost out of the dry oak leaves into the edge of a small swamp and he spotted me again at about 75 yards and stomped and I just turned and walked away and he never spooked.

Sounds like it was a blast.Gettin off for an afternoon from my boss ain't happen.

Those bucks love to push the girls out in the open during lockdown. I have done a lot of stalking on them up in the open farm country. Seems like the odds of getting a shot are less than 10% but there is always a great story to tell at the end of them.

He was in the woods this morning but I couldn't get him tocome close enough. I hope he hangs around the area for a few days. I'm headed back out shortly.
