I can remember loading my buddies and Irish Setter up in my 1975 Plymouth Duster and shooting them things every weekend during the season in 1988 great pic

I used to keep track on a calendar each year of how many my dad, uncle, a family friend and I used to shoot. If memory serves me correctly, 1983, we shot a total of 327. The following year it began to drop considerably, 256. The next year, my senior year, we were down to 118. Some of this was due to changes in life and not being able to hunt as much and much of it was the beginning of the decline in bird numbers.
We never did top the 100 mark again but we always managed to shoot quite a few, along with some good quail huntin too.
Sadly, my 2 boys only got to experience their very young years in the 90's watching me and their grandpa have some really good fun hunting pheasants with my german shorthair. The population here in Shelby Co has gotten so bad I havent hunted them in 2 years and I havent even seen a covey of quail in this area for 2 years as well.

I used to look forward to that all year. Now I can't even remeber the last time that I went. Hope they make a comeback some day....great pic Pete.

Miss them pushing the deer out of the crp opening weekend. Is about all I miss about pheasant hunting.

When I was about six (I'm fourteen) I remember a couple from Wisconsin coming every year to hunt our property and the property north of ours untill I was 11 or 12. The last year they came they told my parents that they will miss talking with them. I remember they always brought a 5 pound block of cheese thanking us for using the ground. In 2008 The last season they came, they got 1 pheasent the year before they got 5 the year before that 11 the year before that 21. I don't remember further than that. I hope this won't be the same case with Deer.

Great pic Pete! There is some pretty good Pheasant hunting to be had just to the NW of us still :D Hope they make a comeback here, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. :(

Yeah we still have a few in west central Iowa, but I remember when I was a kid I would grab my single shot 12 gauge and my britney on a Saturday morninh and could have my limit in 2-3hours.

Both hunts are from last year. The first picture 3 of us were hunting and 4 of us in the last pic. Both hunts were with 4 dogs. Birds are there just very spotty.

Here are a few more pics. Can't beat watching the dogs work.

Thats too bad. I remember just getting to tag along with my dad, some uncles, and a few of their friends when I was younger and just walk and seeing tons of birds and they'd always limit out. I was only old enough to carry a gun and actually get to hunt for a couple years before the population on my unlces farms plumited.
Those some unlces now tear out every fence row and all the brush right up to the edge of the creeks, yet they wonder why their arn't any pheasants left on their farms :/
