Some of you all have seen the trail cam pics of a great buck I was chasing in IA.....I am supposed to get a call tonight to describe the rack but from what it sounds like......The bruiser forgot to look both ways while crossing the road and bit the dust with a grain truck.

I am running out bucks to chase and out of time to scout a new one out. Ever feel like someone does not want you to harvest a buck???? The last time I had a year like this, I took out two does in one night early season.....just like this year....damned if I do that again.
 
I just found out 1 of the bucks I was chasing got arrowed 1\4 mile away from my stand and the other also just got hit by a car!

So Yeah, I know how you feel!

If I don't stick one by Thanksgiving I'm taking a doe.

Just remember the true slob whitetails will start to emerge in about a week. There could be a 180 with your name on it that you dont even know is there. Stick to a funnel and get one of those bosses looking for one last doe! Where your at its not like there is a big shortage of mature animals. Stay postitive man.
 
Shredder, Stay with it man, it'll happen. I know putting in the hours is a drain, but you know that it can all change in a heartbeat.

My youngest son and I witnessed a similar event last night. He had a basketball game and was changing clothes in the van. I was standing outside the van and heard a car hit the brakes, tires skidding and horn blaring. I look towards the highway and see a buck coming right at us. I knock on the van to tell my son to look at the buck. I guess the buck didn't like the lights and parking lot we were standing in, so he heads up the ditch along the highway, zig zagging like a bird dog working cover. I'm starting to get a bad feeling in my stomach as he looks to be thinking of going back across highway 1 at 6 pm. LOTS of traffic! Sure enough, he wants to go back to the east side of the highway. The southbound vehicle brakes and avoids hitting him but the north bound took him dead center in the hood. It threw the buck about two foot high over the top of the car and it lands on the highway behind it. I grab the phone book to call the ICPD and as I'm looking for the number a IHP car pulls up. What timing. I don't think the car that hit it even slowed down or came back. From where I stood, it looked to be a 2.5 or 3.5 year old buck with a decent 8-10 point rack. Bummer.
 
If I hear that down in the dumps crap out of you again I am coming across the river with a box of refreshments to get your attitude straightened around. Everyone has good years and bad...you have had your share of both. Coyboy up little buddy and stick with it. The moment of truth can happen any second, make sure your mentally ready!

its iowa, it's the rut... as one cam said your luck can change quicker than i can make a post. get back in the stand and enjoy the rest of season.
 
sorry to hear about the buck man! If your in as good an area as it sounds, I m sure these guys are right, its not over yet.
 
The Fat lady might be humming a course tune, but she definitely isn't singing yet. I went out driving tonight, to an area where i knew I would see some good bucks, and I saw an absolute giant in a field with about 25 does, he was running from doe to doe checking everyone of them, finally one seemed to be his next quest as he took her off the field and into the timber. The big boys are gonna start looking desperately, you just never know what's gonna show up, it sure sucks about the buck you were hunting, I wish yah the best of luck

At least you have seen decent deer. Largest I have seen I passed on 2 1/2 year old. Well that one muddy and I saw was probably bigger, but I didn't get a great look and won't be hunting that area.
 
I find it useful to talk hunting with your best hunting buds, especially those in your situation. Every time I get pissed, I shoot the crap with a couple of buds and I am ready to hit it again. For every shooter you know about, theres two just like him you have never seen. The real giants are gonna start runnin around this week. Now that everybody has shot the little guys, its only the hogs left for us. All of this you know Ryan, your way to good of a hunter not to. Just like me, I think you just need to hear it from another person.

Soon the season will be over and you will have to wait another 10 months.

I am getting frustrated to bc I havent seen any big bucks. I saw two earlier in the season.

I taged out early last year.

If it was that easy every year the sport would lose its appeal.

Hang in there! You might be in for a surprise you never imagined. Isn't that what hunting is all about?
 
Well Ryan, after the deer season we can share sob stories and tip a few, quit a drive on your part, but until then, get - er - done!

It just does not get any worse than this, sounds like the other big 8 I was chasing on this farm tried the same thing as the 12 point.....smashed by a semi truck this AM. What are the chances???? That fat doe that walks past me is looking aweful tempting now......I suppose if I am going to harvest a buck on that farm...I just as well drive around it several times a day as they are using the road as a travel path rather than the trail past my stand
