O.K. lets hear it how does the signifigent other take your passion for hunting. I went from every waking moment as a single guy to seldom as a married guy(Hunting not sex but thats another topic). We have 3 kids under 5 one of which is a newborn. I have negotiated being able to go out twice per week and toward rut/ Duck +Goose season 3-4 days/ week NOT to shabby givin our scenario. At times I think she gets mad enough to leave over my addiction, but we have survived..... Lets hear your complaints or bragging on your BALL AND CHAIN, single guys/gals enjoy it while you can!

I just got married two weeks ago, I will purposefully avoid this thread the next few days.

i start getting ready for deer hunting 3 to 4 months before it starts ,by this time im driving my wife nuts with my big buck obsessions so she happy to see me go hunting

Just explain to her that you have to go, to get food for the family so you have something to eat during the long cold winter months. It's something that we really don't want to do, but have too, it's for the family. Does she think we like sitting out in the cold, rain, snow or whatever it is? NO, we do it for the family. I tell that to my wife all the time and she says I'm full of sh--t. Good luck.

You dont have to be single, you just have to make it VERY clear from the begining that this is ALWAYS how its going to be.

I don't bug him about his comuter gaming and he doesn't bug me about my hunting. He was a little taken aback when we first started dating and I was shooting my bow in my apartment. (I had 15 yards from the end of the hall to the front door.)

He's pretty used to stuff by now - in november the housework slides a bit (or more,) meals are at odd times and I wake up in the middle of the night (according to him) to go hunting. He actually took hunter safty last month though, and wants to gun hunt with me in december. So who knows, I may have created a monster...

I am working on Shredders method. She doesn't want a bow. Gun only for her.

mr. wood, don't answer that, she will kill you.

oh wait, he MIGHT be talking about the turkey

Like a lot of you, I took my wife out hunting so she would hopefully develop (or atleast understand) the passion I have for hunting whitetails. I took her out two days after I harvested a nice 9 pointer back in 2001 and on the first day of gun season she dropped a 140" 11 pointer. I thought I had her right then, but to no avail.

She hasn't hunted since, but I will say
that she has been very understanding our whole relationship..................until Ashton Mathew cam along on Aug.14. My time has taken a hit as can be expected, but I am beginning to become creative in finding time for the things i love most in life.

I did exactly what ScottIC said. Lay down the ground work right off the bat and stick to your guns. 3 1/2 years it's still working. Let's hope, for her sake, that it will for a long time. ha, ha

On the flip side...a buddy of mine for some reason thought it was good to marry a lady that isn't really for the hunting thing. And he is(was) a huge hunter! What a moron. lol To all hunters....DON'T DO THAT!

I got lucky. She knew what she was signing on for and still did it. She is a good one for sure. No complaints. (P.S. she left the room now, so Mike, come over before it gets light, she'll still be sleeping. Turn off the truck, roll into the drive. We'll push it out and she hopefully won't wake up, to catch me going hunting... ....again. Gotta go before she sees this.)

Well my wife knew what she was getitng into before she signed on so the ball and chain wasn't too bad. It did however gain some weight 21 months ago when our son came. I fear it'll get a bit heavier real soon with a new baby coming real soon. I'm just glad I tagged out early this year. I figure the couple hundred hours I didn't spend hanging froma tree this fall should be good to bank towards my shed hunting tike allotment. Man I hope so...

yep, thats what I did, My wife fully realizes that deer hunting is not negotiable, its simply the way it is.

My wife knows that hunting and fishing is my passion and she knew not to get in the way of it. I admit it does get abit ridiculous sometimes with some stuff slipping so I can go hunt but all in all not to bad. If you need help making your arguement don't forget to remind her with "well I could just go to the bar and have a few beers instead".for some reason my wife sees that being worse than setting in a garage for a few hours after the hunt to discuss the days ups and downs and what we learned

I must say, I must be lucky. My wife knew nothing about hunting before we were married. I explained to her about the way hunting is a spiritual/sacred, experience, as well as providing some mighty fine eating. She is too sensitive to kill anything, and I think I like it that way. But she gets excited to hear my stories from the field, and wants to track a blood trail, and help me with field dressing, and hauling a deer out. She shares in something she sees means alot to me. She is a real GEM!
