BDAHMS hunting log

I had 2 groups- about 15 or so in total of turkeys walk behind my house today- not a single hen and they were fighting like crazy- couldn't get pics of them going at it

also- I have always been saying instead of just cutting the breast off a pheasant- I am going to try and keep the entire bird and try one that way. So last night I am 1/2 through taking all the feathers off- tired from hunting all day - I soon realized why I hadn't tried this before- But- I wanted to do it so I stuck it out- I think I messed up by not keeping the skin on it- but what would you do with this bird? I was going to brine it and then smoke it with "slap yo momma" seasoning rub....thoughts?

I have smoked a few, but just the breasts (bone in). It's been a year or so, but I brined first overnight I believe in a simple brown sugar/salt/water brine. Patted dry, seasoned with a general seasoning mix. Then smoked with applewood at around 200-225 degrees. Can't remember for how long tho. Turned out pretty good, maybe a little dry, but probably just left it on a little too long.

I clean all my birds this way but I fry most of mine up. When ready to cook, fillet the breast out, cut the thigh where it meets the back bone and the legs off where they attach at the thigh.

Take an injection needle like you would use on a turkey that you fry up and put a little bit of your favorite marinade into the thigh on each side of the bone and into the breast. You can cube up the breast and do this as well. I usually cut them in thirds. It doesn't take much marinade for an entire bird.

Bread them up in cracker crumbs or frying magic or whatever breading you want and fry them up. The marinade inside keeps them nice and moist and the flavor you want.

Not much better than wild pheasant in my opinion.

Thanks guys- I will try both!

Here are a few pics from my last card pulls- nothing huge but the two sparring was a cool picture. Also- the buck that is staring at the camera has been passed by me multiple times this year- age thoughts?

I wont be hunting for the next week unfortunately- I fly out to Vegas tomorrow- first time not being home for a holiday- a group of friends and my fiancé are headed out tomorrow and wont be home until Monday. So good luck to you all- hope you all kill monsters and I come back with a heavier wallet (highly unlikely) :)

Good luck in Vegas! Remember, quit while you're ahead (assuming you get ahead!).

Looks like you have a couple healthy yotes to go after later! First reaction on the buck is 3.5 or 4.5, but just a guess.

Good luck out there I had to miss last weekend cause I went to a casino did come home 700 up but it was nice having a little break from the stand

What a day!!! My smoke pole is loaded- in an elevated box blind
In a cedar bedding area surrounded by cut corn. Now it's hurry up and wait- And I also can't wait for 7:00 tonight- GO HAWKS!!!!!!

Had an eventful season- decided to come home last night and cut gun season off a day early- just too warm for me mid days and ready to take a break before I get the bow back in hand. Ended yesterday feeling pretty sick- missed an absolute toad pretty close to me- was all standing around still and he jumped while no one was ready- big big 10- but I have seen multiple studs there the last couple days and all by my bow stands so I am excited for late season with either the bow or Muzzy. Also got my truck stuck for the first time- sank in well over tires while going to pick up my dad in a corn field. it is WET down in Union County. will be a fun wash today.....

Got a pretty cool pic opening morning from the box blind as well- and yesterday AM I used my buck tag on a mercy kill- a decent buck came in running into the fence- running into trees- falling over- etc. So I shot him- he was full of infection with an arrow in his shoulder and also appeared to have wounds to his eye I will leave the pic off as its just his head tagged- but he is a 140ish 8

Haven't really been posting much with the issues on posting from my office and can't upload pics- but went out Tuesday with a buddy and his son - we shot a few quail and saw a ton of birds. Very little deer movement AM and PM- wind was howling but the heater body suit did the trip. Out this AM trying to get my buddy a Xmas eve gift! I normally don't even bother with morning sits this time of year- but with not much time left- I'll get out when I can. Merry Xmas to everyone and hope you have a safe holiday!!

Went out yesterday with a fellow IW member and hunted one of the properties I hunt regularly. Had 20+ deer and my buddy had curly in range- broad side- in the scope for some time. Happy to see curly is alive and well!! Just a few weeks left and he clear a hurdle for seeing him next season (hopefully). And he is still fully intact. Saw a lot of deer yesterday- no shots

Brought a few friends hunting tonight and put them in my stands. So I just took a normal lawn chair and sat far away from them near some corn. Had 13 deer come out- 3
Bucks and 2 were decent and 1 was a pig. A doe winded me and blew and they all took off. The big buck- definitely a wall hanger - went right into the timber. But the rest of the group was jumping the fence about 60 yards away and running into standing corn. I had a 20 ft window to take a shot so I waited for the last deer which happened to be one of the two bucks jumped and I lead him a few feet and took the shot and put him down. Was a great shot and fun experience. He isn't a monster- but a fun hunt either way. Now it's back to bow hunting for that giant that was with him Can't post pics ever since the issues with the website so just the story for now

Do you have a L.o.t?

This was late season muzzy statewide tag. And I have a bow statewide tag left. No Land owners tags
