best hunting show?

Can't watch any of them, unless they are recorded. With the fast forward button it doesn't take long to watch a 30 minute show, when you get rid of product pimping.

I actually like Heartland Bowhunter. I love the music and the cinematography. (sp?)

There aren't any that I set my watch to or have to try and tune into but if I see that one I seem to check it out, I'd guess 9 of the past 10 shows I have watched would be episodes of it.

Lately I like the show Average Joes. These are guys that film their own stuff. Not super high quality, but it's real (or seems) stuff. Nothing fancy, but fun to watch without being beat over the head the whole time with advertising. I enjoy watching hunting when I'm not hunting. Just do. Especially on those 90 degree summer days when I can't sit in a stand.

Favorite show-Midwest Whitetail

Midwest Whitetail. I think Bill Winke does a great job with the show.

If you ever choose to watch the Minnesota show, you might see a contributor to this site on a few episodes.

I rarely watch T.V. programs featuring whitetail hunts any more. I don’t like what the “Whitetail Pro’s” have done to deer hunting, land access, etc. :(

x 2...a couple of my buddies were on it a week or two ago. Doesn't get anymore average than that...BUT I have gained more knowledge on this web site than any of those shows. :drink2:

One of the worst shows out there is Deer City USA that show just absolutely stinks on ice. No deer hunting info at all, bad humor (I mean bad) and product placement everywhere.

I thought I would never in a million years say this, because I can't personally stand the guy, but I have enjoyed Stan Potts new show Dominant Bucks. It is actually an informative show, where they go through different hunting tactics (decoys, scrapes, yatta, yatta) and actually discuss tactics to these hunts, such as where to place a decoy, the directions they should face, etc. I have found this to be one of the more informative shows that I have watched in some time. I still don't like Mr. Potts all that much but his eyes don't go crossed much in this show.

Kratz

At least Stan is excited to kill a nice buck... some of these guys are ho-hum about killing nice bucks and it seems like they aren't having fun. Can Stan get a little too wild sometimes? Yes! But at least he is happy to kill a good buck. Maybe I am the only one that thinks this, but thats the way I see it.

I like Matt Ellison from White Knuckle Productions. He is mute on camera most of the time but if you can read morris code like me he speaks by blinking his eyes....

I feel like many others here, most of the shows are tough for me to watch. I did just pick up the new Fred Bear DVD set. It's a collection of all his old shows, now those babies are a kick to watch!

x2 But I'm slightly partal as we're on the Great Plains show. We're new to the show this year, but we have been amazed on the detail that Bill puts into the show. He sets the bar very high when it comes to what he wants to see out of us, but that is a good thing. The thing I enjoy most about the show is it's nearly realtime (only a week max behind) and actually gives other hunters in the area information on what we're seeing that can potentially help them in the stand now. It's definitely directed more toward educating the viewer over the personality of the hunter (unlike most shows on Outdoor or Sportsman).

Besides Midwest Whitetail, I'm huge fan of Heartland Bowhunter. They're normal guys that just like to film. If they kill a big buck, great, but it's more about the story of the hunt and I'm always amazed at the quaility of the footage.

I would have to agree about midwestwhitetail.com. Ive been a fan since before there were different states, just Bill and buddies in Iowa the first year. They doa good job of not only showing the hunt, but more importantly the why's...Why did you choose this spot to hang set? Why did u choose to hunt this set today with this wind? Why did u plant this food source in this location? etc.. I also love the facrt that they share their personal stoires of certain deer, show prior year picks, missed encounters, sheds etc...Very informative and half the guys of the state teams, are very obviously just regular Joes that are as crazy about this sport as we are...Also the fact like someone else mentioned about the real time. i use this show as a source of info on those days leading to Pre rut, rut, post rut etc that i cant be in the woods. The iowa guys, MN guys and WI guys all hunt within an hour or 2 of my farms and the info is very useful to decide if i need to call in sick to work a certain day and climb a tree....
Watch it faithfully....

I agree that Midwest Whitetails is "worth the watch", the personalities involved seem genuine, down to earth and they are not overly hyper and self promoting, which is a real turn off for me for other shows. They feature products and sponsors, which is fine, you have to pay the bills somehow, but they don't gag you with cheesy, redundant marketing tricks.

I think they also do a particularly good job of giving context and telling stories through previous years pictures, trail cam photos, etc. The only minor criticism I would have is that some of the guys spend a lot of time talking to the camera in the truck, etc, v. actual hunting footage. They could shorten up some of the clips by cutting back on some of the talking.

Another thing that shows up well on this series is that since they have features from other states too, I think you can get a good sense of how well we have things in Iowa. There are more and bigger bucks to focus on for the Iowa hunters than what appears to be the case in several other states.

It has been a lot of fun being part of the show, I have learned so much, and I have much more to learn. Bill and his crew, do try to teach and that to me is why his show is getting more popular every year.

I look forward to seeing the Great Plains Show, it is always fun to watch hunts in Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas.:way:

(I'm off to ND this weekend in pursuit of two 155+ inch bucks!)

I'll throw another one in the mix...On Your Own Adventures. I caught a few shows late last year and have the dvr set up to catch them all this year. Most of the shows are on western big game on public land. They did an IA shotgun hunt last year but I haven't seen that one. I like the fact that they show hunts on public land which is something that anyone can do, get some maps, play the state point games or buy an OTC tag and get after it. Not all shows include a harvest, which is a lot different than several of the main stream shows anymore.:way:

And...I like Midwest Whitetail as others have said.

Yawn. I like to catch an occasional Midwest Whitetail in Iowa. Old Dan Fitzgerald vids are good b/c he whacked and stacked does like they were the trophy of a lifetime. Can't fake that emotion...either got it or don't.

The Stan Potts "treestand orgasms" come to mind.:D

Yeah its really strange how he does that, very weird.

I've found myself watching less and less videos over the years. I guess nothing really captures the intensity of the real thing, especially with the music playing while the deer is coming in which completely ruins it for me. I want to hear the leaves crunching just like if I was in the woods. I want to hear the strategies of why they're hunting a particular stand. I want to see them miss like all of us are guilty of. I guess if I had to pick one group of guys it would be the Primos guys because they still don't play any horror music while the deer is coming in which keeps it realistic as possible. Midwest Whitetail's videos seem to be pretty legit as well. Everything else is just commercialized and phony.
