Got out late this morning, wasn't in the field 'til 6:00. Proceed to grab the nova and head out (in blue jeans and I forgot my mask) figure I would just make a morning of mushroom hunting and forget the turkeys. Walked about 100 yards and heard a hen cutting about 50 yards away, and a gobbler broke in with a gobble. So I snuck to the edge of the timber line and saw the hens. A gobbler then came over the hill and full strut and walked in to about 60 yards. I stood up behind a tree and peaked around, I was about ready to try to take a shot at the gobbler when another one flew over the fence into the field 50 yards away and started to walk right at me.
I took him at 40 yards.
10 inch beard, 1 5/8 in and 1 1/4 in spurs, 20.5 lbs and a missing toe.
So I guess it is better to be lucky than good!
