Had half inch of rain last Tuesday(?), followed by 3" the next day, then 1" last night. Noticed scouring of the gravel roads after the big rain last week and the rain last night, so some of it came quick. We were dry. Should be good for a bit, though forecast looks like more is coming. Crops are looking pretty good.

Weird year so far for me...at my farm in SE Iowa, which is OFTEN dry, we have been getting a fair amount of rain so far this year. We had a relatively dry May, but not terrible, and then we have picked up some nice rains since then. So, all in all, good at this time.

Meanwhile, 75 miles north of there, where I live outside of Iowa City, it's been just this side of the Sahara Desert. :) I had a new pond built at our new residence, we move in there in about 10 days, last summer/fall. The thing has been sitting at about 45% full for quite awhile now. When we do get a rain now it is so dry that it just soaks in and doesn't run off much. Grrr. I am very anxious for the new pond to fill! :) We need rain in the Iowa City area!!

We got very little rain here in Iowa City last night...I would love a big soaker.

4.0" yesterday and today. Still coming. Came hard yesterday. Today it is more of a soaker. Needed. Should get a good start on filling the ponds back to the culverts.

Can't recall but it's been YEARS since we've (up here) have had perfect rain events during the crop growing season.

But somehow, it ends up being Purdy dang good.

Think 4.5” on me. Ponds & whole ecosystem need catch up so I’ll take it!!! :). 6+ inches in some areas- yikers.
So- in 25-ish years of growing something & watching weather - I don’t think I even know of a single year that didn’t have some issue… like “too much”. “Month of no rain”. “Severe drought”. Sometimes it’s dry or cold spring or opposite. Trying to think back where a guy is like “man, around 1” per week all spring & summer long - perfection!” - I can’t think of one single year it’s happened. No doubt there’s “bad, good or great” years but close to perfect- never seen one YET.
To get us back to “normal” for ponds, ground water, etc - my area could probably use 15-20” over the next few months to truly fill all up. I have a pond that shoulda been full 3-4 years ago - built 5-6 years ago- only an acre & it’s still a good bit from full.

We are up to 7.8” this week at our farm! 3.5” just since midnight.
