Shot the biggest bird of my hunting career during second season. I shot him on my third morning hunt. I had been hunting hard the previous couple days, had two chances to shoot jakes but I decided to pass on them. I hunted morning , mid day and evening with very little action. I set up on a property that I hadn’t yet scouted this year but have hunted it in the past. Once the birds started to gobble on roost, I quickly became discouraged as I could hear 4-5 birds on the neighbor’s property across the road and nothing on the property I was on. This continued for 10-15 minutes and I was seriously contemplating on picking up my stuff and trying a different property when I heard a gobble within 100 yards from me. He read the script, pitched out into the corn field on a hill and worked his way down to my lone hen decoy. As soon as I picked him up I knew he was a good one! Check out the growth on his head.
