I want to make sure I am interpreting the rules correctly, you cannot wear blaze orange cammo correct?
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">To hunt deer with a firearm in any season you
must wear one of the following articles of external,
visible, solid blaze orange clothing: vest, jacket, coat,
sweatshirt, sweater, shirt or coveralls. An orange hat
alone is not suffi cient. Hunters in ground blinds during
the shotgun deer seasons must display a 12-inch
by 12-inch patch of solid blaze orange visible in all
directions.</div></div>

I had a pair of blaze orange bibs that had cammo on them.... I wouldn't go off of my opinion though

As long as you're wearing a solid vest you'll be fine. Need to have 500 sq in of SOLID unbroken blaze orange to be legal.

A solid blaze orange vest is the requirement.
if the blaze is broken up in any manner it is not legal.

if you wear blaze/camo bibs and solid vest you will be fine.

Second question, would it be better to wear a complete outfit of blaze orange? Therefore eliminating any possible straight lines where colors break? Thinking now from a deer's perspective, in what it might be seeing?

Safety wise the brighter you are the easier you're seen, but the law only requires 500 sq in of solid blaze. A vest is more than enough, but make sure it's snapped or zipped in the front because if not it could be considered broken.

The only requires a bit, but I vote my life is worth the chance of getting picked off by a deer or two! When gun hunting, I usually don't worry as much about pattern as I do about safety! Call me a nut, but I have Blaze orange hats, coats, bibs and gloves(looking for boots) and I wear about 98 % head to toe blaze orange. I would rather been seen by a deer and a hunter, than seen by neither!! IMO

so are Skunks or whatever!!!

ZING!!!

Possums.... Hahhahaaa.... That is a good.

My question now was more regarding the 12sq in. in a ground blind visable from all sides? Are you supposed to be an orange flags above your blind or what?

Dean

I thought about a flag too. I did'nt like the idea of it flapping
in the wind!!
If we need 12" visable from all directions---A flag would only be visable in two directions or maybe none if wind was'nt blowing??? I think it needs a little better defining, maybe a picture of what is legal.

Well, the blaze orange is definetly a great idea, cause I can see other hunters from miles away, however, I think that camo blaze orange would be equally effective. And the camo might actually help us hide from the deer a little better.

I'm not sure where "Got Rack" is getting his information but Iowa has no blaze orange square inch requirement--the code only mentions articles of clothing. Some other states and provinces have a minimum but not Iowa.

And the word "solid blaze orange" means no camo, brown canvas (as in some blaze orange upland game bird vests) and it can't be a mesh vest since the word "solid" also refers to the material.

The 500 sqin was something I was told by a Woodbury county CO along time ago and just took it for gospel. Good to know that it is incorrect and sorry for any confusion.

So do blaze orange boxers count? /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
