Blazers glued & too big......now what?

I got some new 2" Blazers for Christmas. My truck & roads are covered in ice today so instead of fishing I thought I would put my new veins on my carbons. I got all of them on, dried & they shoot great. But I just now discovered that they wrinkle as they pass through my whisker. They are too large in diameter. I'm not going to buy a drop-away rest & really don't want to by new veins. Anyone ever made a tool to cut these all the same while on the shaft? I suppose I can make a "tool" to do a die-cut type of trim. This bums me out /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I don't know about cutting them, but I have heard if you use a blow dryer the vanes will go back into shape.

by too big, do you mean they are contacting the outer area of the biscuit (the metal ring)? if they are not touching the metal, you could trim out some of the bristles, giving the vanes an open slit to pass through

Tell me more about your setup? .... I have been shooting blazers with a deluxe whisker biscuit for 2 years now and could not be happier with the results.

Are you shooting with one vane up? I rotate my nock so one vane points straight up and the other two will then straddle the stiffer whiskers on the lower portion of the biscuit. I have had NO issues with warped or wavy vanes. I have been told this happens with regular vanes... but I have never tried them. I have always shot blazers since using the WB rest.

I just double checked my setup... the overall diameter of the WB rest outer ring is definately larger in diameter than the diameter of the blazer vanes on my setup.... not by a large margin but definately no issues with contact.

I have the one vein up & the other 2 straddle the black bristles. I can see now that I don't have contact w/ the metal ring. I was checking for clearence by pulling the arrow slowly by hand & the veins wonder & wrinkle really bad when slowly pulled through by hand. Freaked me out. If you pull the arrow through fast it goes easily.

Are the veins on your arrows straight w/ the shaft or cocked a little?

This still sounds off some how. Did your glue fail in some way by chance, intermitant addesion or something stange like that?

I put as much offset on them as I can... which with blazers isn't much... maybe 3 degrees... it seems to be enough though to make them spin nicely. Those blazers should sizzle through those whiskers after the shot with no problems. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

i think (maybe) i understand this post now.

your issue is that as you slowly pull the vanes through the biscuit, the vanes wrinkle (in the biscuit) and return to normal after they clear. you are being overly analytical. that is what is supposed to happen. at the shot, this happens in a fraction of a second. the blazers durability, is what makes them an ideal vane for biscuits. just don't forget the little extra dab of glue at the front and back ends of the vane

Exactly /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I am very analytical by nature, I work w/ weights & measures /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif And I did remember the dab of glue on both ends. I love the way these shoot already /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I thought you meant the vanes now had a wave or a crurl in them from shooting them and you were trying to figure out how to straighten out the vane. Guess I better learn how to read or at least comprehend what I'm reading.
