When you hunt from a blind with a bow do you leave the screen up or down?I will be hunting with a bow this spring and I'm not sure if the bird's would bust me faster with the screen down.I would like to be able to shoot exspandable's but I do not want to shot them through the screen.
What do you all do?
 
Last year was my first year turkey hunting with a bow. I had good luck shooting with the windows open. I just made sure that the back side of the blind was closed so no light was shining through. Birds didn't seem to care at all that the blind was there.
 
Ditto what SDBUCK3 said,keep it as dark as posssible within the blind and even wear a black shirt,cap,gloves,and facemask,to help hide your movement.Don't think I'd try shooting expandables through screen unless they were of the cut on impact style.I've used the Spitfire's and wouldn't attempt to shoot them through screen because,of the blunt tip.Although some with the razor tip may work.
 
I've shot Rocket steelheads through the netting with no problem out to 25 yards. They do have sharp tips. You can get a piece of netting material and try it to see what it does.

I thought thats what the netting was for is to shoot for?

Yes...you shoot through it. As Old Buck said, if the blind is set up properly it has little noticable effect on arrow flight. I hunt almost exclusively with netting in place. Just feel like it makes it much less likely to get busted. Good luck!

Why would u shot though a bline that you paid money on. That is like money down the drain. Plus, you're wrecking the blind.
 
20_gauge, their speaking off shooting through the netting that covers the window,not the actual blind itself.Some blinds come with replacable netting that is designed for shooting through.

I took two birds last year with the bow, out of a Double Bull T2. They say not to use mechanicals with L-shaped blades ( like Spitfires for example )when shooting through the net. I took both birds through the netting, shooting Spitfire 100gr. One bird was at 22 yards and the other was close enough that the arrow was on it's way through the bird before the fletching was out of the blind. Practice shooting your arrows through he netting and see how they fly, thats the only way to know.

I just bought a Matrix 360 and will more than likely shoot with the netting up. That blind lends itself more to open window shooting than the T2.

It's said that deer are more apt to spook when shooting through an open window. I've had equal amounts of luck either way. I will say having the netting down provides you more confidence when the game is in close.

Like the other guys said.... if you are going to shoot with the windows open, make sure you don't skyline yourself. Keep the blind as dark as possible from the back.
