forgive my ignorance,
but what are the exact guidelines for a whitetail to make the books for boone and crockett, and also for pope and young.

got in a debate with someone and i had thought it was one way and he thought it was different, so just wanted to know what it takes to "make the books"

thanks

P&Y, animals shot with a bow - fitting within their guidlines.
P&Y minimums:
Typ WT - 125"
Non Typ Wt - 155"

B&C, any trophy... shot with any weapon/and or animals found dead. Also have their own guidlines along with fair chase.

B&C minimums are more complicated... They have something called the "Awards minimum" and then the all time book minimum. The 3 yr awards is just a way to honor those trophies that don't quite make the all-time book.

Typ WT - awards=160", all time = 170"
Non Typ WT - awards = 185", all time = 195"

is this what you were asking?

While we are at it, what determines whether a rack goes in as a nontyp or typical? How much abnormal requires the switch?

If the deer makes the min of both Typ, and Non Typical, it is the owners discretion as to which way it is listed.. To be listed as Non Typical it needs a minimum of 1 inch of "Abnormal" antler growth.. That is any protrusion that qualifies as a point, and growing from any place other than the top of the main beam.
Other than the minimum values the only difference is the third antler rule which seldom applies but can.. A complete third antler with it's own burr. B&C says it's a freak and can't be scored.. P&Y says it is abnormal and adds it to the closest antler
