bothered by the bucks

problem with bucks !!!

Last weekend I was in the new blind and a few does were feeding around the blind. one doe I decided was big enough to take. she was about the size of the doe I took first day of the season.

she was quartering towards me so I was waiting for her to move broadside. finally she did but when she did her fawn came up and was feeding right next to her. if I shot and the fawn lifted her head , it would have been a head shot, so I waited. out of the other window was a smaller doe.

finally the bigger doe turned towards the smaller doe and there was my chance. I saw the smaller doe take off so I leaned ahead to see what made her run. and there was the 140 class 10 at under 10 yds. the one I passed up at the same spot a few days before.

So since the buck was right next to the blind I didn't take a shot at the doe.

So , tonight I went to the blind Tom and I hunted out of. first thing up was a button buck, after he left a doe with twins came by, she was only a 1-1/2 year old, so to small

when they walked away out came some more does and their fawns one was the size of the one I shot the first day so I decided when she steps infront of the opening I would take her. suddenly she bolted, why you might ask. well, another buck. he came up to the blind and then walked over by the does. he never gave me a shot at that time but he turned around and came back. I had the bow up and waited for him to walk thru the shooting lane. he was between both windows so I couldnt see him, after a bit I saw movement to the west and looked, but only a small doe, when I looked back here he was walking thru my shooting lane at about 12 yds, so I didnt get the shot.

he stayed by the blind till jon came to pick me up. so jon got a good look at him in the headlights

darn big bucks always coming in and screwing up my shots at the does.

this buck I got a few pictures of this late summer. but at 10 yds you really get to see the rack. he was under 10 yds for about 15 minutes.

here are a few pictures of him in Aug.

yea the little bugger on the right

nothing like a big buck near your blind, made my evening.

it works out great at the blinds, jon drives me to the blind, I go up the lift and he drives off, so when we spook deer away from the blind by driving in, after he leaves they are right back. same with him coming to pick me up, the deer run off, but dont equate that with someone in the blind.

Your telling me you had the "little" guy on the left under 10 yrds and you took your eye off of him. Man oh man what a rush that must have been

Couple things-

First- that looks more like a 150+ than a 140 class.

And second- is there a reason why you don't feel like shooting that buck?

Nice problem JLC!

I have problems with the dang little bucks messing up my "doe harvest"...but so far no big ones have "gotten in the way"

Love those blinds! I really like my ground blinds and I'm glad your new blind is working out for you

That still doesn't answer the question- if there's a reason why he doesn't want to shoot the buck he mentions in the pic.

JLC- Great story, thanks for sharing another good tale! By the way, what a terrible problem to have!

He did want to shoot the buck in the pic. The 140 he passed is not shown in any pictures. He is being facetious with the captions below the pictures.

Wisco,
Last week in the new blind I saw a rack going through the woods. He came out and over to the blind. A 10 pointer, around 18" spread and tall. he would be guessing, a 2-1/2 year old and guessed him to be close to 150 gross typ.

Maybe its old age , because any other time, there is no way I would let him walk by. but when I saw him I decided then to let him walk. both times he came by the blind he was under 10 yds.

I already have a doe in the freezer from the first day of the season, so I really don't need any more venison. That helped in the decision of not shooting, plus knowing there are allot bigger bucks running around the area.

the other buck I got pictures of a few times this late summer. It was great seeing him up close (under 10 yds) than thru the 450 mm lense from across the field.

that buck so close, I would say I was as pumped as I would be if I shot it. When he was near the blind I planned on shooting him , but things didn't work out. I know some people get upset because they don't get the shot, It doesn't bother me, it was just a great experience.

Some people hunt to kill. I am more out there to watch. If I want a deer, I shoot one no problem.

now before I hunted this farm, I hunted trails and often had 150+ class bucks within 15 yds but couldn't get a shot off. sitting on the 4 wheeler or sitting on the ground or in my wheelchair, I am pretty limited in how I can turn. So over the years I have had allot bigger deer than what is in the picture close but no shots.

thats why its called hunting.

Very cool. I gotta say- I really admire your enthusiasm and energy- especially given physical limitations. That's what its all about- making the most out of what God has given us. Some of my best hunting stories are those when I come home without scoring, but had some natural encounter that was so unique and awe-inspiring, it just makes you feel awesome to be alive. Good hunting and God bless.
