Saw two deer from the highway tonight. The lead one was doing that side to side avoidance gait. The one following had its head down following in a straight line. Lead deer would slow down, then speed up when the follower caught up.

I pulled over and got the glass out. Looked like a 2.5 year old buck carrying both sides bird dogging a doe. He stuck with her like glue, she had to be in estrous. There were other deer in the area, yet he was locked onto her.

A very Horny,,buck is all.
I have trail cam pics from late Jan with bucks pestering does. One doe was bedded in front of the camera, bucks checked out where she was bedded for the next two days. She must have smelled special.:way:

Fwiw I have seen a couple VERY small fawns the past 2 years. It would seem as though some does could be getting bred about this time of the yes, no?

I saw a LOT of very small deer this fall. Which I think might just now be coming of age.

There used to be an old doe running around my area, and year after year she had a brand new, tiny, spotted fawn in november. That's pretty extreme, but there are definitely some odd-ball does that have their internal clock screwed up.

Two falls ago my dog and I bumped a fawn with very bright white spots yet while pheasant hunting a favorite hilliside. It was the weekend before Thanksgiving...that's where this one is headed I'd guess.
