Thanks for showin me how to do this Derek, I really appreciate it!
The story starts off Friday night when I was heading home from school, my buddy called and said he spotted the wide eight pointer on the terraces near one of our tree stands chasing a doe, I figured he was going to hunt the spot the next morning but he told me to go for it so I did. The morning hunt of Nov 10 went pretty well and I had small bucks all around me all morning.
That afternoon I wasn't in the tree for more than 5 minutes before I had a small buck walk right under me again, and this was around 3 oclock. Around 4 pm I arrowed a doe in a picked cornfield and shot her a bit back and was sick to my stomach, then I did something I shouldn't have and I got down to see if I could find my arrow so I knew how I hit her, and I couldn't find it so I got back into my tree still sick. I decided to call a little and hit the buck roar, then I bleated twice, buck roared, and let out a long bleat. And out came a fork buck. He walked right under my tree out to the corn field where I shot the doe and smelled the area where I had shot to the doe, in the mean time does are moving out of the field where he first came in... I bleated again as he was moving off and he came right back, checked some does, and made a 10 minute long rub on a tree right under me. As he was moving off I snort wheezed at him (I was having fun just messing with this buck)but he got scared and ran away.
Not a minute later I see a bigger bodied deer moving through the field where the little buck just left, I knew it was a different deer but it was dark enough I couldn't see rack and then he stopped dead down wind of me and started walking straight to where that buck had just spread his scent on the tree under me. As he moved closer I started to be able to judge him up, he was the wide eight my buddies have spotted in the past. While he was checking the rub straight under my tree I flipped my mentality to shooter mode and thats when my heart was about to burst through my chest, I thought the buck would be able to hear it. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif He walked behind a tree and I stood up fairly quick and drew on him and he presented a 7-10 yard shoot quartering away and I drilled him and my arrow dissappeared through him and caused him to take a monster donkey kick and ran into the cornfield on the opposite side. I heard a gargle and knew I hit a lung but I still sat for 10 minutes and then quietly backed out and came back two hours later to find this boy at the end of a 60 yard blood trail! My pals have had two pretty good encounters with this buck on the terraces where the buck came from but both times they were not hunting.
Oh, and I never did find my doe... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif
But I want to say I really liked the comment Ghost made about it only taking a moment to fill your tag because that is exactly what happened, we knew a wide deer was in the area and that is what triggered my shooter mode, but within a 1 minute encounter at dusk I put an arrow in the nicest buck I have ever taken! I just have to thank my buddys within BrewCrew for all the hard work they have all put in this last couple years and its was finally time for a reward this year! Thanks guys.
