broadhead opening in target

Front deploy bradheads won't open at immediate impact?

Switching to mechanical this year because consistent flight is overwhelmingly becoming my biggest benefit. I picked up a couple brands and shooting into one of my old Block layered foam targets; shooting into the harder, mesh sides since the other sides are too worn out to catch my arrows. When trying the rocket steelhead xl, the blades aren't opening (front deploy) on impact but do see they are open by the time they exit. 3 shots with all the same result. Curious if this is because the target is softer than what flesh would be? I mean, the mesh plastic around the target is pretty tough so not quite sure. Can't be the KE because I'm pulling 70lb with around 6.3 g/lb and they are open upon exit. I've been searching the WWW and have mixed results with the steelhead entry cut

Got the T3 as well but have only shot with the practice blades.

The T3's are the highest failure rate mechanical on the market. I'm shooting the rocket sidewinders since late last year. The blades fully deployed on entry both times. One issue I had was breaking the washer both times. One was a shoulder shot and the other was between two ribs with one blade hitting a rib. Both were pass throughs.

Not trying to start an argument, but where did you get the info for this?

I've shot these for the last three seasons and have yet to have issues. Just curious what the problems might be.

Sorry to hijack.

There was a very in depth study done on AT a year or two ago where a gentleman tested like 40+ heads and posted the results. The blades regularly came off during testing. You can also see the video of Travis turner smoking a buck with a T3 and Waddell then shooting him a mile away an hour later.(not sure what went wrong, but entry and exit are directly behind the shoulders and about 1/3 or more of the way up the body. I've also had a buddy shoot the heads and have blade retention issues and non-deployment issues.

I have taken many deer, one hog and one bear with rocket steel heads and all have deployed on impact. I have seen the same thing on my 3d target as you but did not have that happen on game. I'm not a rocket homer either. There are several other good heads I have used, mainly grim reaper, G5, and slick trick magnums. No issues with any of them.

They get in far enough before they open for you to notice on your block.

Pick up se rages and you'll see the entry :)

I used the T3s last year and wasn't a huge fan. Out of the package the blade tension was so tight that they wouldn't open. They were coming out of the target still closed. Then when I would loosen the tension the blades were popping open mid flight and throwing my shots of by quite a bit. Everyone seems to have all bad things to say about Rage but that's the broadhead I prefer. I've never had an issue with them and they fly amazing.

I have shot many many animals with the Rocket steelhead and they always opened on entry at all angles. Shooting them into a block style target they gave me the appearance they didnt open on impact as well but always had the three blades deploy in hunting situations. I shot T3's last year but the clips that hold blades in place is a janky ass design that had me screwing with them in my stands to fine tune them to keep them in place. Going back to old faithful Steelhead and the motto of if it aint broke dont fix it.

Took me a while to post this but took a doe last weekend with the steelhead and it did the job. Opened on impact on front shoulder and out the other side. Problem is two blades sheared off before the exit but guess that didn't matter with a heart shot as she went 40 yards.

Good luck everyone!
