Broadheads For My Wife..

Well I bought my wife a new bow this year, and now we are in full hunting mode so... this is the setup:

Bowtech Equalizer
48lbs @ 26"
Goldtip Ultralites 600's
they weigh in at about 191gr with blazers and nock, but with no head.


Didn't know if we should go 75,85,or 100gr head also CC, Chisel, Mechanical like a Rocky Snyper or Tekan 2

She would love to hear suggestions

sounds like you got it from the right shop!

you should probably see what your kenetic energy would be (i'm sure limb will put up the equation). you may want to go with heavier arrows, to have some weight behind the head, to drive it through better. i would think 75-85 grains, in a cut-on-contact head, or possibly a mecanical with a cut-on-contact tip

I would stay away from the mecanical braodheads . They require more kenetic energy than she will have. I would go with 100 grain fix. Its hard to go wrong with a rocky mountain or the G5 Montec

You need to figure the coeffeciency of your arrow, which is also your weight forward balance. It is just a bunch of lingo right now, but here is what you do. According to some of the top arrow people you should be between 10-15%. Take the measurement of the length of your arrow from insert to the inner most part of your knock and write that down, next divide by 2 and mark this length on your arrow shaft (this will be center of shaft) next balance the arrow on your index finger and make a mark at that point, measure the length between your 2 marks. Take this measurement and divide by arrow shaft length from previous measurement. and then multiply by 100. Example: Shaft lenth 30 in. difference between marks is 3 in. divided 3 by 30 = .10 x 100 = 10%. Like I said you should be anywhere between 10-15% and you should be o.k. I dont know if I was clear up above but make sure you have your broadhead/field point in when doing this. Might have been a given but you never know.

easier way is to go to goldtip.com, and use their f.o.c. calculator. put in weight (grains per inch), shaft length, tip weight (including insert), knock weight, vane weight, and distance from balance point of the vane, to the end of the shaft. they walk you through it pretty well

As suggested above, Montec or Rocky, I'd also throw out Muzzy and some of the two bladed heads such as the Magnus Stingers or the First Cut 90 grain two blader. The Muzzy Phantoms look good, especially since you can take out the bleeder blade and go with a two blader and get better penetration. A buddy of mine, his dad was using two bladed 90 grain Fist Cuts and got great pass throughs with lower poundage after his shoulder surgery.
