Posting for Russ "Long story short, having a baby in two weeks, so hunting days were going to be few and far between. I haven't shot my bow all year, been busy with work and cattle and family. I just bought my tag last night, dusted off the bow, and shot at 20yds since I knew where I wanted to go I was only going to get a 20 yard shot. It was still dead on.
Got set this morning a little later than I wanted to (the walk in took a lot longer than I had thought). This spot is in the bedding area, so the plan was to sit all day. About 745-800 two bucks are walking the standing corn edge right to me but down wind. I didn't get the greatest look at them but thought the first one looked pretty nice. They were a little on edge and sniffing the air but carried on to my shooting lane. I let the arrow fly and just missed over his back (he ducked pretty hard). They stayed within 60 yards for the next 10-15 minutes so I got a better look at them. The one I missed was a nice ten, hell of a three year old that I really didn't need to shoot anyway. lol
They walked off and for the next two hours I had 15 doe/fawn file by on a 20 yard trail...if they were bucks it would be a chip shot.
It was 10:00 and I started digging in my pack for my sandwich, all of a sudden I hear a few grunts coming down the trail. Look down and didn't need the binoculars to know it was a big one. He followed the same path all the other deer took, it was picture perfect and I made this shot count. He ran 40-50 yards and died.
We put the tape to him and got a gross of 192" with 17 scoreable points."
2015 - one encounter with this buck under my stand at 5yds in Late November
2016 - no sightings
