I see a lot of bucks in Iowa with abnormal sides. More than anywhere else I've ever hunted. What do you think causes so much of this? I think it might be fighting and a pedicle is damaged?Rain is growing brow tines.

Fighting. When they shed - usually due to fighting & jarring it non-stop - a chunk of skull comes off with the shed. The following year that side is funky. Sometimes funky is from Injury but vast majority is shedding off a chunk of the skull. My wild guess is- half of em stay funky (sometimes get really cool & neat) - other half kinda return to normal.I see a lot of bucks in Iowa with abnormal sides. Haven't gotten any mature buck pics since May 3rd, it will be interesting to see how much they put on in June!Guess we beyond nubs now…
This is when they are dispersed!! We see same thing. IMO- they usually are bedded by some kinda crop (beans for example) & bedding in shade right next to it. Little strip of timber. Or canary grass. Their travel areas are so tiny right now.Haven't gotten any mature buck pics since May 3rd, it will be interesting to see how much they put on in June!
