I've been watching my farm since last wednesday night. Just watching to see what the does are doing so I can map out a plan of attack for the Jan. doe season.
Anyway, last night and last Thursday night I saw little bucks nosing around fawns, the fawns are freaking out and these little forkhorn bucks are chasing them. The mature bucks don't seem to be interested, just the younger bucks.. Isn't a little late in the season to be seeing this kind of behavior?

P.S. I did see a coulple dandy bucks that made it through the shotgun seasons, that made me feel pretty good about next year

There will be a little trickle rut right now. With as many does as there are in certain areas they just don't all get bred. So when they come in again there will be this kind of activity for a bit.

Thursday night last week was the best night for watching this! 4 does came out with 2 fawns in toe, behind the last fawn 5 bucks came out and of course the 2 biggest bucks I have seen this year were the last to appear. The 2 bigger bucks mainly came out to eat and watch what was going on, the 3 smaller bucks were all over the fawns, a couple bucks even locked horns for a while.
Ticks me off becuase I went 1st season shotgun this year, if I would have had a 2nd season tag I may have had a chance at one of them nice bucks! Either way the deer are really starting to get in the winter groups and coming out to feed in big numbers. I can't wait for the Jan. Doe season!
 
I thought that if I participated in the shotgun season, I wouldn't be allowed to get a late Muzzy tag. Am I wrong?
 
Have been seeing a little chasing myself that last few days, smaller bucks bumping fawns also. Just waiting for that big boy to catch wind of it.
 
Yep, you can purchase a doe tag for your county if they have any left. I guess I was speaking of next year. Sorry for the confusion.
 
Thanks for the clarification fellas! I currently don't own a muzzleloader, but have thought about buying one. I have one that I can borrow if I want.
Right now I'm just scouting for the doe season, and really just enjoying my time in the field, I love to sit in my fencerow the last hour of the day and just watch over the cornfield and see what comes out of the timber.
 
Dont forget about bow season!

One evening last year, during the mid-December muzzleloader season here in WV, a deer broke up the hollow in my direction, and was being chased by a larger deer. When I got my binoculars up, I was pleasantly surprised to see the pursuing deer was a young 8-point, maybe 16-17 inches wide. He was chasing this doe, which I believe was actually a fawn, and grunting his head off like it was the first week of November! He even stopped to rub on a sapling!
