Buying a ML

I have never hunted with a muzzle loader and I am looking to start. Can anybody give me info on a certain gun? I am looking at buying a CVA Wolf™ 209 Magnum Rifle. Would that be a good gun to start with?
Thanks.

That would be a fine choice. But I would spend just a tad bit more and get an optima. CVA is great. There newer stuff anyway. Me and my brother run an Optima while my dad has an optima pro. They are all tack drivers.

If you pick up an optima, and then a wolf you will see how much better the optima "feels."

by the way 100 gr 777 and a 245 gr aero tip powerbelt is a great load to start with.

GOOD LUCK!!

Price wise, how much is the cost difference between the CVA & the Optima?

the optima is a CVA. Its just the next step up. I believe mills Fleet farm and scheels have synthetic blued for 189. Not sure what the wolf is?? you can find and optima in stainless, and camo for like 249 sometimes. Hopes this helps.

You get what you pay for.

Spend as much as you can afford without breaking the bank.

I have a Thompson Center Omega. It was shooting 3 inch groups out of the box at 100 yards with open sights. You will be looking at 350 or so for a plain Omega depending on where you go.

Good Luck

If you stick with a quaility gun you probably will be a happy camper. Knight, TC, CVA are all good. There are other as well. Benny gave some good advice. Buy as good as you can afford. As a owner of 4 ML's I can say if you can afford stainless, definetly go with that.
