Cairo, Egypt = S*** Hole

Well.. I had a 3 day pass this weekend, so, I went on a trip to Cairo to check out the Pyramids of Giza... Saw some cool stuff and saw a lot of not-so-cool stuff.. Makes me really appreciate living in Iowa where people actually care about the environment. Cairo is a city of over 18 million people. It was always blue-bird skies, but I could never see very far because of the dense smog.

THE COOL STUFF:

Climbing out of a tomb.. I guestimated it at about 20m deep or more.. it was very hot and humid in there.

Sitting on the largest of the 3 main Pyramids of Giza.

NASTY STUFF:
The first pic is a herd of goats in downtown Cairo eating garbage and you can't see very far because of dense smog...it was a sunny day. The second pic is just a bunch of garbage in the median in the middle of a street next to a dumpster. It pretty much looked like that down most of the streets. To top it all off, dysentary has set in /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Very interesting photos- on both ends of the spectrum! You are right it does make me enjoy my little slice of the Iowa pie.

Wow im there. Those camel toes are huge.

Man are we lucky or what. Id love to see the sites but I couldn't even imagine living in that.

One needs to travel to put where he lives into perspective, either for the better or for the worse.

Thanks for serving!

My daughter has been working in Iraq for the last 3 years in support of our most excellent troops /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif that are serving there. She travels all over and this "Filth" is pretty typical of Mid East culture from what she says.

She just got back from a trip to Israel, and said it was cool to see the same places that Jesus walked(including on the Sea of Galilee.

We are planning a trip to Cairo this fall (just after the rut of course)looking forward to seeing the history there.

Thanks for sharing and your service to this great country. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

God Bless the USA.

A couple months ago, I also had a chance to go to Israel on the Holyland Tour. We rode a boat across the Sea of Galilee, went to the Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum, walked the Stations of the Cross and also went inside Jesus' Tomb. That tour was awesome. When you go to Cairo, be EXTREMELY careful of what you eat. We ate at a KFC (not so sure if that didn't mean Kentucky Fried Camel /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ) and I got food poisoning from it.. I vomitted all last night and this morning and have had diahrrea all last night and today.. it sucks! I would say about 50% of the people that have went to Cairo from here this year have gotten really sick.

Here is some info on a really good guide for Cairo..He will take you around everywhere and get the best deals on everything.

Neat pics man! Glad to be living in little ol' Iowa. Other than the occasional Busch Light can laying on a gravel road and maybe some old farm equipment, cars, and misc. junk in peoples yards, it's pretty clean around here!
