Cape?

Didn't know exactly where to put this but wondered if anyone had a good cape they might sell.

I had no intentions of mounting my buck last year so I did a skull mount but later got a great deal of pressure from buddies and then a great deal on a shoulder mount. So, my wife caved in! :D Plus, it's my first nice buck and will be my first shoulder mount.

Does anyone have any extras or know where a guy can buy one that's not all beat up?? Don't know if this matters or not, but my buck was 4 1/2.

Thanks!

Chris Hoskins Taxidermy out of Luther, IA may have one. I believe he had like 40 extras last fall, not sure about now. You might want to give him a call 515-230-3125

I just delivered a 4 1/2 year old cape to chris. It was from my New years eve buck last year. I would show you a picture but I haven't figured much out here since all of the changes. The pic should be in my photo galery, I just don't know how to get to that. I would think your taxidermist would have his own extras.

If you dont have any luck local, try Taxidermy.net. They have a For Sale section that has different size whitetail capes on there all the time. Most of them have already been tanned.

Its worth a shot:)

I think most taxidermists will be able to get you a cape, might take a bit this time of year if they are out, Greg Cuvelier in Aplington (30 miles west of W'loo Cedar Falls) helped a buddy of mine out a few years ago when he couldnt find a bow kill till a late muzzy. Or call your local Sheriff's Office see if they will put you on the list for road kills We have a lot of guys who will take deer year round, a lot of the deer v. car wrecks I cover are not beat up at all and would still make good capes

Thanks for the responses. All were very helpful and I learned a TON in the process. Chris Hoskins is doing a couple mounts for LoessHillsArcher and his number was one of the first on the list so I gave him a call and a few others. A few others offered their capes as well, but quickly into the search I learned that I needed a very short haired cape - which are tough to find. Chris had a VERY short haired cape that matched mine and was flawless. Hoch's taxidermy (Marlin) looked at the cape and the first thing he said was WOW. He said he hasn't had one that short in a long time and that he is looking forward to doing it...after seeing Sureshot's buck (and his trophy room) I am very much looking forward to getting it back in 2 weeks....yes, 2 weeks!

thanks again for the help - I'll post pics when I get him back...
