Random thoughts:

Not a single fawn out of thousands of pictures. Guessing they are still in the "hide and stay put" mode right now.

Couple of cams had deer hitting licking branches. Don't know why I thought that was a fall behavior only. 99.9% sure they weren't eating leaves.

Couple of bucks got a good start on growth. Thinking I have history with one and hope to watch him as he grows. Pretty confident I have his core figured out, silly me for being smug.

Need to treat a couple cams for ants. Hoping to spray the outside of them. What have people used?

I watch a coyote pestering a doe right outside my cabin window on Friday. The doe would chase it trying to stomp it, then go back to an area behind the shed, the coyote would then follow until the doe chased it off again. Must've been a fawn back there the doe was trying to protect. I watch them off and on for 15 minutes...

I use permethrin to keep insects off cams.

I’ve got some up & some for security …. Some of deer behavior is same as fall…. Like the licking branch scrape locations. Just a way to leave & check scent … when leave cams out- cool to see how they act in spring & summer. I haven’t seen fawns on cam yet either. Hmmmm.
Spot on with permethrin. I’ll use that or bifenthrin… q-tip inside cam where ants might go. I also put those silica gel packets in cams so no moisture gets in. Time flies & I bet 45 more days dudes are starting to notice some bigguns.

No fawns yet. My resident does look like they are ready to explode.
No doubt twin/ tripps. Even got 2 doe fawns that got bred. 2 super mild winters in a row. Have now to many deer for the limited cover. Gonna need a severe winter to knock em back as our hunter #s are dismally low.
Several old does are super tight to my yard perimeter.
Always makes me smile to hear fawns bleating on a calm day calling mamma.
Older bucks have gone a.w.o.l. always do this time of year.
Next time I see them will be late July in bachelor groups in a bean field. Often in places a mile away that makes no sense?
From now untill late July, will seldom see deer out in fields.

Mid September, they will be back. Habitat work sure pays off.

Got several licking branches that stay active all year long.
Really fun to watch the deer browse on the new leaves from new growth(browse).
Water holes have not much attraction now. Most walk right by. Ample rains, new green growth and they don't need to drink.
Any walking in the woods now brings the sounds of Robin's screaming their " you're to close to my nest" warning sound.
The woods are SO vibrant now. Makes me feel at peace.

The deer are much calmer since I shot that female coyote few days ago.
Got 1 more 2lb bear chop I'll cook up tomorrow for a potluck gathering with friends.
Got about 3 out of the 5 cords of wood cut n split I need for the year. Damn, propane is much cheaper/ easier but..., when it cold, there is NOTHING that compares to wood heat.
Seem my first hummingbird of the year this morning.
Giddy to start the annual pumpkin food plots started.

Thanks to those that have served to make the U.S.A. what it is !!!
How do porcupines have sex?? (Random thought)

I just spent 1/2 hour babbling typing that LOL.

Gonna go get a cold beer.:)

This week and next should line up with peak breeding bell curve. A few reports of a random fawn crossing the roads last week and one a couple weeks ago. A lot of the alfalfa hay got put up last week before the rain but I’m guessing we will smack some on grass hay in the next couple weeks.

Sounded like a perfect spot and stalk chance on that yote!

Dead center in the pic my oldest doe had her fawns a few days ago.

She greerts me every morning at sun up with her head peeking out of those beautiful Phlox Flowers.
Just seen her bout an hour ago and she had 2 babies standing with her.
SO Beautiful!
