Sunday, I shot hit a doe a little further back than what I had hoped (stomach/liver) and she then ran right by me after being hit. On her way away I hit her perfect getting both lungs and heart with another shot. She only went about 70 more yards and when we flipped her over to see the exit holes, there was only one on that side. My second shot did not go all the way through her. It was just under the skin in front of the shoulder on the other side. So we quick cut the skin and pulled the killing slug out with the wad still attatched. I cleaned it up and now I’m saving it! Can you believe that at only 25 yards the slug did not go through her? Our brand we use is Bernike (spelling?

) Think about the energy she had to absorb!

It didn't even mushroom. I think that would worry me a little bit.

That looks like a Brenneke K.O. slug.

Is not what kind was it?

I wouldn't worry to much about that slug not mushrooming much. It is already bigger in diamater than most of the 44 cal sabot bullets after they have expanded. They are also pretty flat on the end so they creat a tremoundous shock wave going in not after it starts to mushroom. Things are funny sometimes. I have had the slugs pass through both from the side and from end to end. I also shot a deer in the neck with one and no exit from 50 yards.

I've had the same exact thing happen with brenneke slugs a few years ago. It is pretty cool to get that slug back!
