Boulder, Colo. Residents Protest Deer Hunting
10/21/2009
Residents of the foothills in Boulder, Colo. are protesting deer hunting and requesting that wildlife officials ban hunting in the area.
While Boulder County has banned firing weapons in the Sugarloaf area, deer hunting is still allowed. Hunting in the area with high-powered rifles began with the season start last Saturday.
Area residents petitioned the state for a hunting ban in 2005, but no ban was approved. A lawsuit filed in 2006 challenging the legality of hunting in the foothills is still hung up in court.
State wildlife officials say they can't exclude one small part from the surrounding areas where hunting is allowed, and believe hunting in the area is safe despite concerns from the opposing residents.
