Cold Feet At The Iowa Deer Classic

I'm not one of those lucky hunters to harvest a true "trophy buck" this year, but if I was I think I might be a little reluctant to bring it to the Classic. For one, I don't want to bring any publicity to my hunting area. For two, I wouldn't want anybody to try to steal my mount from me.(If they would try, chances are they would meet their maker). I am a new member to the site, just wondering what you were thinking.

there is no way someone could steal your mount at the classic....well there is but the security on the munts in the scoring area and in the exibits. and before u leave at the door they check a tag they put on the antler and u are the only one who has the tag n ur pocket and their is a number on itso u get ur deer back..... but i dont think any one would be stupid enough to try to steala mount from abounch of avide hunters unless he wats a bounch of hicks running him down.... hope that helps.........
also we are all luckly hunters. even if we dont harvest a giant buck or a little doe or anything at all its just the fun of the hunt.....

I don't think the concern is having it stolen at the show, but rather the publicity you might get at the show then some low life criminal tracks down where you live and does a B&E. Kind of like what happened to the Independence buck (et. al.) last year.

I got pulled over at the classic last year by a guy when I was carrying my OWN sheds out. You'd have thought he was going to write me a ticket. Pretty tight ship. The guy even knew me and my name was tagged on the horns.

dj210g,
Don't let the thought of getting it stolen ruin your fun. Bring it to the classic and enjoy. If you don't then the varmin ( or scum of the earth)win out. They will always be there whether you do or not!! Things catch up with them eventually.

Also, it is not required to put the name of the county where you harvested your buck. I don't know why they ask anyway, you brought the deer to be scored not to advertise your hunting area. As for being stolen, don't worry. As for care of mounts, I'd be a little hesitant. They dinged one of my mounts up a couple of years ago. It only takes one moment of carelessness.

Has anyone heard of a mount being stolen from the classic? That would bite. I wouldn't want to be the guy making a grab and dash for the door with all kinds of camoed killers around.

Thanks all for your confidence in our security at the Iowa Deer Classic Big Buck Contest. It is a high priority for us. Our volunteers do a great job and treat every trophy as if its their own. In addition to the claim check system we use, we hire overnight security guards to watch the trophies and the new facilty has 24 hour video security cameras.

Yes I can imagine what your concerns and fears are. I do know that they are on top of things there like everyone has said and I know they don't want to give anyone a reason to not bring in their horns to share with everyone. That's one of the great things that makes the Classic great.
