I got DSL yesterday. This site is slower now, for me anyway, than it was before. It takes on the average 30 seconds for anything to load. Thats alot of black screen to be staring at.

As a test my wife and I both put IWT on the address line and hit enter at the same time. She was looking at posts before I was even signed in.

Same DSL, same router same wireless network. Her processor is just a squeek faster than mine and her RAM is a few more K. On every other site we ran our test on we were with in a few milliseconds of being the same.

This is the only site that my computer has trouble with. I've played with the cookies, the firewall stuff, even dumped AOL. Ran ad-aware yesterday, did a complete Norton and Spyware sweep.

Took the computer into Best Buy yesterday and got the usuall crap, the site must be busy, etc etc.

Like I said before, every other site is blazing fast. South Slope has a test file to run to see how fast your download times are and mine was around 880kbs. Even at my old dial up speed of 44kbs this site was slower to load than any other, but it is even slower now with DSL.

I'm even to the point where I wonder if PETA hasn't hacked into the site to slow it down on some computers.

Any help?

Even if you can't help, thanks for letting me vent.

That's strange, I just got satellite high speed and am having the same problem. My surfing speed is 1.5 MB and all websites load very quickly except this one. Could there be a problem with the website?

What browser are you using? I have both Mozzilla and IE (Windows Internet Explorer) on one of my computers and Mozzilla tends to be faster but it doesn't handle some URL's as easily as IE.

I say that you push the wife aside and use her 'puter

Something that may be related or at least peaked my interest is that Ad-Aware always reports this site as a "possible browser hijack attempt". When I delete it simply removes it from my favorites list. What is odd is that this is the only site I visit which shows up every time I run Ad-Aware. Anyone have any ideas?

How much memory does your computer have? How about the wifes?

To find out click start, right click My Computer, choose properties.

Okay Bonker, after reading your post, analyzing the situation, and researching various scenarios, I came to one conclusion - you're pretty much screwed. . . sorry.

[/ QUOTE ]story of my life....

I have a Gateway MX6124 with an Intel Celeron Processor 1.50GHz and 507MB RAM. The wife has an IBM ThinkPad with an Intel Centrino Processor 1.70GHz and 512MB RAM.

She has volunteered to let me use her computer. Problem is, she has to take it to work with her. So I'd be screwed when I'm at home and she has to work.

Thanks for your help.

This is of absolutely no help, but you are not alone. I have wireless hi-speed at work and a measly 21K dial-up at home. While pics on this site load drasticaly faster at work, pages in general load faster at home. In other words, I get less black screen at home but it takes much longer to download pics at home. The funny thing is that at work the slow loading seems to be random. One thread goes quick, the next might take 30+ seconds. I agree that this only occurs on IW from my experience.
I notice all this, yet I am entirely too retarded to know what any of it means.

First things first, clear out your cache and delete your temporary internet files. See what that does for you.

I have the same thing and my internet connection is 10mb per/sec when I have the cord hooked up and 100 mb per/sec on the wireless. I wouldn't worry about it. My computer has a 2.3 gHz processor. I think the site is just busy sometimes.

I've developed trouble with the site also in the last several months. I believe it is the site and not my computer as I have the same trouble at home as I do at work and one of the computers at work is brand new and loads the pages/posts/pics the same as at home. If I don't refresh a post with pics. as it loads I can sit for several minutes waiting to see the pictures. It makes going to the shed forum he-double hockey sticks and I can't imagine the harvest forums during the season. Hopefully it gets fixed as I can't see paying for the PMA if it's a pain waiting for all the great pics. that we get in there. Maggs

Like the thread with pics. of all the rubs found while shedding? Awesome post with great pics. but I still haven't gotten all of the pics. to load. Very frustrating and I wonder if it has to do with some of the advertising on the site. My computer (or internet provider) suddenly decided it didn't like sonmething about this site and it's very consistent whatever it is. Maggs

Here's a question? Do you think it keeps people away from this site?

[/ QUOTE ]

I do, but not everybody has the same problem a few of us do. I know that I haven't been on near as much since last Friday, the day I got DSL, as I was in the past. Maybe that is a good thing for both the site and me. I'm almost through the DTs. Withdrawl is a booger.

Predtor Masters is powered, I belive, by the same software that runs this site. It loads lickity split. An IT guy where the wife works reccomennded trying to contact the Infopop company, I think they supply the software, and ask them what I can do to get my computer to run this site.

I have gone to places, how can I say this, "inside" my computer trying to figure out if there is something outta whack. It took about 10 seconds for me to realize I was way over my head and to back out before I realy mess something up.

Anyway, I am left to wonder if it is something about the banners that is causing the problem.

I have been having the same problems at work and now at home that others have been having. It seems like it takes an extra long time to load some pages on this site. It have been very slow while I'm on right now. Just ran a little test, from the home page to forum page took 48 seconds to fully load!

I have DSL at home and I do stare at the black screen also. I have tried clearing the cookies and temp interent, but doesn't seem to help.
As far as keeping me from coming to this site...I'm not gonna stop coming here, to much great stuff, just a little frustrating sometimes.

OK, try this:

Go to the line at the top of your page that has File Edit View Tools Help.

Click on "Tools"

Click on "Internet Opitions"

Click on "General"

Click on "Accessability" (bottom right corner)

Choose "Ignore Colors"

Choose "Ignore Font"

Choose "Ignore Font Size"

Click on "OK"

Click on "OK"

Then try it. Mine is much faster but doesn't look as good. White back ground, not very colorful but pics and everyhting loads very quickly.

As far as I'm concerned this is a stop-gap until I (or somebody else)can figure it out.
