corn for trail cams

How much corn would one have to stockpile for one camera? Say from end of season to mid march?

A lot if there is any kind of density. I don't know how you could even put a number on it, once the word was out about the free buffet... News like that travels fast!
If I had to take a guess, I think you could figure 50-100 lbs a week once every critter in the hood got on to it...

I have one location on the edge of the city that I am getting 400 pics a week and the deer(and coons) have gone through 700 lbs of corn in 1 month. My other spot is rural and I am getting 100 pics a week and have gone through 350 lbs. of corn in 1 month. I am going broke buying this stuff @ $7 per 50 lb bag. I have got to find it cheaper or quit putting it out.

Last Feb. after a really bad snow I went down to my main property and put out 300 lbs of corn. It was gone in 24 hours

Wish I had a trail cam back then.

Jeesus... I may need to get a corn knife and raid a few fields in the black of night.

A friend of my dad's was going thru about 40 bu. of shelled corn every week or so last winter. And to top it off he was just taking it out of his neighbors corn bin because he said it would "be OK" that is until my dad informed him how much corn was going for and he stopped taking it from his neighbor (who had no idea whatsoever how much he was taking)

I'd say you better start stock piling some corn. It goes like hotcakes when the deer don't have to work for it.

Up in WI, we used to just put out a coffee can full every couple days. Not enough to feed the herd, but enough to keep them coming back everyday to see what's there.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish I guess. You just want to take some pictures or do you want to provide a primary food sorce?

Deer actually eat less food in the Winter...

If you really want to provide it as a food sorce you can plan on 7 pounds per day per animal.

If you have seven deer feeding daily, they will clean up a 50 bag over night with no problem.

At $4.00/bu corn this can become a real expensive hobby.

As you can see, they will be waiting for you each day if you stick to a regular feeding scheldule.

Ghost - I don't want to be the primary care giver for all the deer, I'd just like to keep the majority of them coming into the corn so I can keep tabs on bucks and maybe keep a few sheds on the hunting ground. A 5 gallon pail once a week? Do you spread it out or just dump it down?

I have a cheap 6 gallon Moultrie feeder that you hang from a tree. 6 gallon will last about a week and it feeds twice a day. They won't get fat off of it but they do show up for a taste. It will be good enough to let you keep tabs on what is in the area.

I wonder if it'd last longer if I could keep it up off the ground in a feed bunk of some sort? Make it harder for coon and turkeys to get at it?

Turkeys are terrible. They'll clean it up in the middle of the day before the deer even get to it.

I guess I could wait for the opportune time and borrow a grain wagon full of the yellow gold? Drag it, dump it, and return it?!

My dad (down south) will feed 50lbs every other day in the winter. Could get kinda expensive if you don't have a stock pile or get it real cheap.
