It has been quite a few years since I planted corn food plots but did this year. Should I mow it or knock it down? Going to wait and do it until Late November/December so that it is fresh going into late season.
I like the added cover to the plots so I let it stand. I mow as low as I can about March and no till the beans. I only have a couple acres so I will mow 2-3 passes to shred everything. I am always surprised at how rapidly corn fodder breaks down.It has been quite a few years since I planted corn food plots but did this year. Should I mow it or knock it down? What I try to emphasize now is encouraging game to move from plot to plot through the day and adding cover to the food. Just by my observations, cover improves plot utilization big time in high pressure areas. We all know that to an extent, but it is the biggest issue on my farm because we have 2 heavily used roads bordering our farm. And...our climate allows us to mow the plots in March so I mow the heck out of them.I like the added cover to the plots so I let it stand. I mow as low as I can about March and no till the beans.
