Coyote tried to eat my decoy!

I went out this morning (it was cold) and heard some gobbling from a couple of toms within a couple hundred yards. Right after it got light out they get quiet and I see movement to my left and here comes two coyotes into the field I'm hunting. One of them circles my decoys wide while the other just comes right in and nails one of my hen decoys! He just takes a big ol mouthfull and jumps straight up into the air like he was the one that got bit. He then ran in a wide circle around my decoys and hooked back up with the other coyote and they both proceeded to head back to where they came from. In all of the excitement (it was the first time I've seen coyotes while hunting) I forgot to shoot them

Has anyone else had coyotes come into their decoys and attack? How about shooting them with turkey load, has anyone done this?

I have had an attemted attack a couple of times but for one reason or another the yote has always seemed to exit stage left or take a life long nap after the shotgun has barked

About 10 years ago I went out before season to pracice calling on a part of our land I knew we weren't going to hunt. Had the camera with me thinking I could get some good pictures. Called a yote in. He was literaly on the verg of jumping on my decoy and I brought my camera up for a picture. He saw my movement and high tailed it out of there. I wished I would of let him jump on the decoy it would of been funnier then hell!

Had pretty much the same scenario 5 years ago. The pair of coyotes came in to the decoys. One of them snuck up on a hen, and upon touching it jumped probably 5 feet in the air... before high tailing it out of there. I too was so astonished that I never took a shot.

I had one come charging in at a decoy a few years ago, I did manage to roll him with a shot gun blast just as he got within a couple of feet of the decoy. Never found him but I bet he won't do that again!

There are a couple of ppl that come up so where i dont kno where, but any way they were huntin our land and they had a hen decoy out and 4 coyotes came out. They shot 3/4 coyotes or 2/4 coyotes or soemthin like that. But if there is a tom coming and a coyote eatin my decoy that tom well still go down even if i shot that coyote

Opening day of Kansas season a friend of mine was working a bird and eventually hens pulled it away. He decided to move around and set up again but left his decoys out and his turkey vest in the fence row. He ended up getting the gobbler. He went back to his original set up to retrieve his vest and decoys. He was kneeling down putting the bird in his vest when he heard what he thought was the wind blowing his decoys around. He looked up and a coyote literaly had a feather flex decoy by the neck and was heading out.

He said it looked like a labrador retriever with a bird in its mouth. He said he looked so proud with his head held high and prancing off. He still had shells in his gun and give him a 3 1/2" dose of #5's. Got the coyote and the decoy! It was hilarious listening to him tell the story!

I had two coyotes come in to my decoys about a half hour apart during 2nd season. One of them was standing about 15 yards in front of me, trying to figure out the decoys. Evenutally, he got my scent, and headed out.

My old man was turkey hunting one day, and fell asleep like he always does. When he woke up he had 5 coyotes coming straight at him, he pulled up his 11-87 and shot the first one, He swung over and dropped the second one, the other 3 were trying to flee when he took out a 3rd one. Then he swung on a 4th one and shot it, he looked back at the 3rd one and it was spinning around in circles and he shot it again. So he took 4 of the 5 out. I think that would be more fun than shooting a turkey.

If any coyote comes within shotgun distance of me turkey hunting, its going down. It doesn't take much to find a new bird, compared to the pheasants, turkeys, and fawns those coyotes will kill

Sunday, I had a red fox come running into my calling. He got to within 15 yards of me and then he spotted me and took off running.
