Cuddeback Capture

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem that I am having. I have a Cuddeback Capture that is only taking black pictures at night. It takes fine daytime pics, but the flash isn't going off at night. I tried new batteries and same problem. I brought the camera home and set it up indoors. It will take a flash picture if I walk in front of it within 10 feet of it. Beyond that it will take a picture but it won't flash. Doesn't make sense to me. I wouldn't think what triggers the camera and what tells it to flash would be the same component??? I called Cuddeback tech service and got a recording telling me that they are experiencing a lot of calls and I should call back or push O and leave a message. When I tried to leave a message it says that the mail box is full....not a good sign. Anyone have any suggestions or help?? Thanks.

Return it.. Thats what I did. Mine was flashing at night but it was pulling in moisture in the mornings and taking terrible photos from 5am-10am. I have never had a problem with anyof my other cameras doing this either.

Had the same problem with the flash on our capture. Was going to take about two weeks to send it in and get a replacement from cuddeback so we returned it through Cabela's instead. They sent a new trailcam out right away and didn't require us to send our defective one in first like cuddeback was requiring. With the problems we have had with the sd cards and the flash on the new capture I am not surprised you are having a hard time contacting their customer service. Hopefully they get these problems taken care of before they lose too many unhappy customers. Things are not looking or sounding good for them though in my opinion. I will say that when you are able to get ahold of them they really do bend over backwards to help you out but I can imagine most people wont be nearly as patient as we have been.

Thanks for the feedback. I took the camera back to our local Cabelas here in Maine and they exchanged it for a new one, no questions asked. Cuddeback had a 2 week turnaround so this worked out better. Hopefully this one will work ok. The other 2 we have seem to be working fine, hopefully an isolated issue...

I just bought a new cuddeback last week. Checked it this past weekend and over 50% of my night photos are very blurry, kind of like brewcrew said. I'm very unhappy with how this has turned out and i'm going to return mine as soon as I get the chance. First time buyer and the only time.

I've never had it stop flashing altogether, but I have had them take black pictures every so often... maybe 1 in 80 will be black on average.

I think the blurry pictures can sometimes depend on the unit, but I also think that the cuddebacks have a little more sensitivity to high moisture, especially this time of year. I get blurry pictures right before daylight when it is super wet on the bottoms.

Other than those 2 'issues', I love the cuddebacks I have had. They take great pictures and have amazing trigger speeds which really helps when you get later in the fall and don't have them set up over bait.

So should I take mine back or not Derek? Do you think once the season rolls around it will take better pics (less moisture in the air and cooler temps)?

I have to agree, other than out of the 3 I have and it only happens on my oldest one.

Same deal here, right before dawn and right after for a few hours when the dew is the heaviest I get "wet" pictures. I think its dew on the lens that makes it look blurry.

I think they take the best pictures during the season. The fast trigger enables you to set them up pretty much anywhere and get good pictures even perpendicular to a trail. You can take it back if you want that's totally up to you. I'm just saying I really like ours... and the captures have even better winter battery life than the other cuddeback I had. It was taking 300 pictures a week in 10 degree weather and the batteries still lasted a month.
