What do you guys think of his age? Not a giant- but a nice clean 8

Definitely mature. Roman nose and big body. Not much for score, but a nice deer regardless.

Not to disagree - but doesn't look mature to me. Looks like the classic end of October 3.5 year old. Muscular, not a lot of mass, "clean" tines, and if you look in the first pic, his belly is NOT blocky, but curves up into his rear haunches.

I'm just one opinion though... Here's a 5.5 year old body for comparison...notice how the body is more blocky? But every deer is different.

Bottom line is if you are pumped about him, then have fun hunting him and take pride in the harvest. You asked about age, so our opinions are what you are going to get... :)

BTW, I think he's a beautiful buck!

How dare you disagree! :D You may be right, I mainly just couldn't get past the long nose.

Based on what else you are passing he's a deer that will also get another year. He's got the tine length needed to add good inches next year.

Once I believe a deer is only 3.5 I don't care about his antlers anymore. He gets the pass. But I do absolutely love big 8's!! I hope he sticks around!! If my dad comes with me to hunt here I wouldn't be upset if he shot him.

Even if he's 4 I'd give him another year. He has potential. If he were short tined I'd say kill him because they usually don't go from short to long once they are mature.
